3G-Enabled Google Nexus 7 Could Arrive In Six Weeks

The Google Nexus 7 may be about to get even better with evaluation indicating Asus is currently development a 3G edition of the well-known 7-inch product.

Hands On With The Sony Vaio Duo 11 At IFA

Earlier today Sony introduced the Vaio Duo 11, a laptop/tablet hybrid with Windows 8 that's made to give you the best of simply all worlds.

When collapsed the Vaio Duo 11 seems just like any regular 11" Windows 8 tablet but it actually has a lot more. Sony's picked a very high quality 1920x1080-panel with excellent viewing angles (so probably IPS) for the display. The result is an extremely crisp image with deep contrast and good brightness. 

In contrary to what was believed to be the case (due to the leaked documents), Sony has decided to use a very good Wacom pressure sensitive digitizer for the stylus. I've tried one of the apps to take notes that came with it and it worked remarkably well. Since you could just rest your hand on the display as you would with a real paper notebook writing feels incredibly natural. The digitizer reacts almost instantly and the pressure sensitivity makes it look incredibly real. The stylus has two buttons, one of which is used to switch between input modes. 

I've also tried OneNote 2010 on the hybrid and it worked pretty well. With all the new improvements for touch in Office 2013, the next version of OneNote should work perfectly without any issues. While we're talking software, the whole system seemed to be relatively bloatware-free. 

When using it in the extended mode with keyboard things change pretty drastically. Having had the chance to properly play with Windows 8 I sort of expect that if you have a touch screen available you will probably just use it. The keyboard on this laptop only really functions as a pure text input device, similar to using an external keyboard for the iPad. Because of the switching mechanism the keyboard had to be placed as low as possible on the base, removing any possible room for a touch pad. To counter the complete lack of a mouse Sony included an optical track-point in the center of the keyboard, but since it doesn't react very well I suspect not many people will be using it. 

The keys on the keyboard itself are on the small side, but they type quite comfortably. If you're used to a chiclet keyboard you won't have a hard time with this one. As it should be in this day and age the keyboard has a backlight that switches itself on when needed (using an ambient light sensor). 

The switching mechanism itself seems to be quite sturdy and the whole product felt quite solid in any situation. On the inside the device is powered by a regular Intel Core i5, making you able to run all non-Modern software you want/need. Because of the impressive specifications, sturdy body and hybrid mechanism the weight of the device is quite a bit above what you're used to for a tablet, but holding it with one hand should still be possible without getting uncomfortable too soon. On the connectivity side you have a bunch of USB3 ports, HDMI and good old VGA for those company projectors that only have VGA. 

My overall opinion of this product is quite positive. It'll probably cost quite a bit of money, but for that price you get one of the most versatile and high-quality products you'll be able to get with Windows 8 (other than Microsoft's own Surface device). In fact, while I wasn't a fan of Windows 8 before these Windows 8-optimized products made me realize that it really isn't all that bad, especially not on a tablet.

Samsung Shows Off Series 9 WQHD Laptop With Retina Display-Like Resolution At IFA 2012

IFA 2012: Zagg Unveils Two Bluetooth Keyboards For iPad

Lenovo Unloads Windows 8 PCs, Ultrabooks At IFA

IFA 2012: Haier Announces Android-Powered Smartphone, Tablets

Ask anyone about Whirlpool and you’ll probably get an answer about the Chinese business's popular household appliances, not its mobile phones. Well, that’s all going to change now, with Whirlpool introduction two Android operating system pills and a Universe Note-sized smart phone at the ongoing IFA 2012 meeting.

As per a review by AFP, the two pills - the Small Pad711 and the Maxi dress Pad1012 - both run Android operating system v4.0 (Ice Lotion Sandwich), and will be operated by ARM Cortex A8 processer chips. The Maxi dress Pad1012 sports a 9.7-inch display with a quality of 1024 x 768 p, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 8 GB of on-board storage space, a microSD cards port and HDMI. The Small Pad711 has a display with a quality of 1024 x 600 p and measures seven inches wide, has 8GB of storage space space, a microSD cards port and Wi-Fi b/g/n. No details about the photographic camera, CPU, RAM or power supply are known as of yet.

The smart phone is called the Whirlpool Phone Pad 5511 and has a 5.43-inch show with a quality of 940 x 450 p. It has 4GB of storage space, an 8 mega-pixel photographic camera, Wi-Fi and 3G connection, built-in GPS, and will run on Android operating system. We currently do not know the version of Android operating system the smart phone will run, but we hope Whirlpool chooses to ship it with Jam Vegetable.

We have no information about the costs and release dates of the three new devices on the block. The AFP review states that “these requirements put the Whirlpool smart phone very much in the mid-range, mid-performance bracket”.

The IFA meeting is one of Europe’s largest technology conventions and events. This version of IFA saw a lot of items revealed with the features along with a load of reports by New Samsung. Panasonic also declared the Xperia Tablet S, which features of a 9.4-inch show with a quality of 1280 x 800, and is operated by a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processer. IFA 2012: Sony Announces New Devices In Xperia Range - T, V and J

Sony Mobile has announced a new range of Xperia smartphones along with the first Xperia Tablet from Sony Corporation at the IFA. Featuring in the upcoming James Bond cinema release Skyfall, Xperia T (also coming in a variant known as Xperia TX for some specific markets) is the new global flagship model, providing Sony’s best HD smartphone screen, camera and easy ‘One-touch’ functions enabled by NFC (Near Field Communications). Xperia V shares many of the same great features with Xperia T, but is also LTE enabled for superfast network performance and comes with the highest level of water resistance in smartphone. Xperia J has eye-catching design with a stand-out screen size for consumers looking to combine great style with affordability. Xperia Tablet S brings Xperia to the world of tablet for the first time. Xperia T will be launched globally over the next few weeks, whereas the Xperia V and Xperia J will be launched globally in calendar Q4 2012.

IFA 2012 : Epic Games Shows Unreal Engine 3 Running On Windows 8

Legendary Games Inc., together with NVIDIA, has provided the first public display of A fantasy Website 3 (UE3) operating on Windows 8 and Windows RT during Asus’ media meeting at the IFA 2012 gadgets display in Germany.

A live, real-time display of Epic’s “Epic Citadel” app, which has been launched for iOS and Display, was shown on the Asus Vivo Tab RT, the device formerly known as Product 600.
