News Apple MacBook Pro Updae : MacBook Air 2016 Release Date, Specs & Price Update: Laptop Launching Earlier Than Expected? [Rumors]

Apple is reportedly taking a new marketing route with the MacBook Air 2016 i8s which has recently been rumored to be launched earlier than expected.

According to Geek Snack, the new MacBook Air, which was initially set to hit the market by March 2016 is being prepped for an early release this November.

With the surprisingly release of the Moto X Style, Moto X Play and Moto G, the outlet sees an early 2016 MacBook launch to be very plausible.

Apple and Motorola have been repeatedly pitted against each other as leading companies in the tech manufacturing industry.

Rumors suggest that the production of MacBook Air 2016 i8s has been ramped up to be released just in time for the Holidays this 2015.

Other rumors also imply some negative reviews of this plan, especially after considering that the MacBook Air 2015's recent release was not been graciously accepted by the public because of its repetitive features and lack of change for a relatively expensive device.

Christian Today sees the $100 introductory price tag for the upcoming 2016 MacBook Air as "the lowest-priced Apple laptop in history."

According to the outlet, the Cupertino-based company incorporated the Intel Core-M-based Skylake processor, the latest chipset Intel has to offer.

The new line of MacBook Air would also be made available in two sizes, a 13-inch and a 15-inch model which would both sport a lighter and thinner exterior than its predecessors.

It would also boast a retina display that offers users an enhanced viewing experience through a 178-degree viewing angle with its richer and more vibrant colors.

The upcoming line of laptops from the iPhone-maker is also expected to run on Microsoft's Windows 10 out of the box.

It would have 4GB random access memory as well as a 128GB and 256GB SSD storage while its premium model is seen to be running on 8GB RAM and 512GB storage space.

Geek Snack also predicts that the upcoming MacBooks from Apple would maintain its backlit keyboard but would replace the rigid buttons with ones that are easier to click and are textured to lessen mistypes.

It would also be thinner than all other Apple laptops - or any laptop at that - with about 11.5 mm thickness.

These are mere speculations and rumors. Apple has yet to confirm any detail as of the writing of this article.

News Apple MacBook Air 2016 Update : Mouse & Trackpad To Get Biometric Upgrade Too?

It is rumored that Apple MacBook Air 2016's Magic Mouse and track pad will be getting a biometric update.

This will exponentially help the users to easily make their transactions using the feature of Apple Pay, according to a Taiwanese Apple Rumor Website. If rumors proved to be true, Apple will need to install a dedicated chip into the laptop for this exclusive function.
Analysts say that the idea of inclusion of the biometric update for the Magic Mouse and the trackpad implies that Apple is planning to open Apple Pay for web payments as well. Currently, it is only available for NFC transactions and in some iOS apps. Thus, Apple Pay would then provide competition to other players in the digital wallet space such as Amazon Payments and PayPal.

Apple MacBook Air 2016 is expected to be released in October at an introductory price of $899, making it the cheapest laptop from Apple.

It is also expected to sport a much sleeker design and a much greater resolution than any of the previous Apple laptops. It is expected to be available in two variants of the 13 inches and 11 inches. The 13-inch version may sport a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 and the 11-inch variant may be sporting a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Both the variants are also expected to sport the IPS display and be really thin in size.

MacBook Air 2016 is speculated to be powered with Intel Core M based Sky Lake processors along with a RAM of 4 GB. It may have with 128 GB SSD for the mid- range model and 512 GB SSD for the higher end model.

It is also expected to sport a Retina display and a USB Type-C port. In addition, the laptop may be a fanless device which will come equipped with Mag Safe connectors, full sized USB ports, and one SD card slot, according to MacWorld.

News Apple MacBook Update : Two Mac Viruses Strike At The Heart Of The Platform's Secure Image

‘Thunderstrike 2’, a worm which moves from Macbook to Macbook using hardware, joins privilege escalation bug seen in the wild for the first time.

For years, Mac users have been safe in the knowledge that their platform was relatively safe from malware. A combination of the lower number of users on the platform, less attention from security researchers and, in general, fewer security holes in the operating system than Windows has led to a history generally free of damaging viruses and malware. So proud has Apple been of its security that it even ran several spots in its Mac vs PC ad campaign dedicated to the idea that Macs don’t get viruses.
But in quick succession, two new serious vulnerabilities in OS X have introduced Mac malware back into the conversation.

One exploits a weakness first confirmed in mid-July, which allows a malicious program that gains access to a Mac to run as though it is the administrator of the computer – a vulnerability known as “privilege escalation”. In doing so, it can bypass a lot of Apple’s security features, which rely on appropriately limiting the ability of downloaded code from affecting the deeper functions of the operating system.

Stefan Esser, the German coder who discovered the exploit, heavily criticised Apple for having already patched it in the beta versions of its next operating system, Mac OS X El Capitan. The company, which did not respond to a request for comment from the Guardian, still has not fixed the flaw in the latest current version of Mac OS, Yosemite, nor in the beta for the next Yosemite patch.

“At the moment it is unclear if Apple knows about this security problem or not, because while it is already fixed in the first betas of OS X 10.11, it is left unpatched in the current release of OS X 10.10.4 or in the current beta of OS X 10.10.5,” Esser wrote.

Later, he tweeted that “Apple was informed about said bug months ago and as usual did the irresponsible to fix it for some beta half a year in the future only.

“That means Apple released the bug via a patch … 4 months before they want to ship the ‘fix’,” he added.

Now, Esser’s bug has been seen in the wild for the first time. Researchers from Malwarebytes discovered a new adware installer doing the rounds, which allowed the adware to embed itself into the operating system, and – crucially – allowed the adware to install itself without requiring the user’s password.

Malwarebytes, which also criticises Esser for releasing the exploit without giving due notice to Apple, says: “This is obviously very bad news. Apple has evidently known about this issue for a while now … Unfortunately, Apple has not yet fixed this problem, and now it is beginning to bear fruit.”

At the same time, a very different exploit is about to be revealed to researchers at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas. It uses a bundle of weaknesses in the firmware of a computer, the embedded operating system which runs the lowest-level functions such as fans, power supply units, and USB ports, and lets the researchers overwrite that software with their own code, and five of these six weaknesses are present on Macs as well as PCs.

The researchers notified Apple, which has patched two of the vulnerabilities, but three remain unpatched.

Worse still, researchers managed to write a proof of concept attack which uses the weakness to create a “worm”: a virus which can spread from MacBook to MacBook directly. A deliberately infected email can infect the first MacBook, which then automatically attempts to infect any other hardware physically connected to it, such as Apple’s ethernet adapters. If that hardware is later plugged into an uninfected computer, the worm spreads further.

“People are unaware that these small cheap devices can actually infect their firmware,” researcher Xeno Kovah told Wired. “You could get a worm started all around the world that’s spreading very low and slow. If people don’t have awareness that attacks can be happening at this level then they’re going to have their guard down and an attack will be able to completely subvert their system.”

The worm, called “Thunderstrike 2”, bears a similarity to a previous proof-of-concept attack called BadUSB, which let attackers reprogram almost any USB device to attack hardware. But even that attack hadn’t been turned into a worm, limiting the potential damage.

News Apple MacBook Pro :Apple MacBook Air 2016 To Be Cheapest MacBook Ever With Price Tag Of $899

If you’ve always wanted to have that Apple logo on your laptop but you’re not ready to pay the price, then here is a chance of a lifetime. Apple is expected to launch MacBook Air, which according to rumors is the cheapest MacBook from the company.

According to reports from Master Herald, the new Apple MacBook Air will be priced at $899. It will be out in the market in 2016 and will be the cheapest from the brand ever.
The report from Venture Capital Post has cited some specifications of the 2016 version of MacBook air. According to the report, there will be marked improvements in terms of screen resolution. Intel Core M-based Skylake processor will be present in the new version.

The base model will have an internal memory of 128GB with 4GB RAM. The set-up model will come with 256GB hard drive while the top model will have Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD.

Selling the predator model at a lower or discounted price always gives indication that a new model is on its way. Apple is currently giving discount on MacBook Air 2015 version. The 128GB model is now available for $824.99 while the 11-inch, 256GB model is available for $1044.99. The price for the 13-inch models are $849 and $1139.

It is also stated that the MacBook Air 2016 will have a slim design. Higher-definition retina display can also be expected in the new model.

Apple may be releasing the MacBook Air at the same time as Surface Pro 4, which will also have the same Skylake processor. It will come with Windows 10 but when prices are compared, it will be far too expensive than the Apple product. Apple must have taken the challenge to compete with Surface pro 4 and grab the market the company had expected.

Surface Pro 4 will be available in 12-inch and 14-inch variants. It will sport 4GB RAM. The internal storage starts from 128GB which can go up to 1TB.

News Apple Laptop Update : Apple MacBook Air 2016 - 4 Reasons Why You Should Wait For The Cheapest MacBook Air Device

Apple MacBook Air 2016 is rumored to be released with a major design as well as software upgrade and will be the cheapest MacBook Air device to date. Here are four reason reasons why the upcoming Apple MacBook Air 2016 is worth the wait:
1. Price Factor: The MacBook Air 2016 is expected to be introduced at a price of just $899, which will make it the cheapest MacBook Air device till date. This is one of the main reasons that customers should wait for the release of this device as Apple seldom makes such a low introductory offer.

2. Slimmer and Lighter Design: MacBook Air 2016 is expected to sport a slimmer and lighter design based on the latest MacBook, which was released earlier this year. The new MacBook sported a screen size of 12 inches. It weighed just two pounds and is only 13.1 mm thick. MacBook Air 2016 is expected to be modeled on these lines, according to Gotta Be Mobile.

3. Retina Display and USB Type-C Port: It is also expected that the upcoming MacBook Air 2016 may have the Retina display as well as the latest USB Type-C connecting port, thus making it truly the device of the future, according to Hot Apple News

4. No Major Upgrades in the Past: On the other hand, the current version of MacBook Air did not receive much upgrade in either its design or its software specs. It was just tweaked to sport a better CPU performance and incorporate more memory, in comparison with its previous versions.

Hence, MacBook Air faces an increased build-up, making it one of the most anticipated devices of 2016.

News Update Apple Mac Pro : Apple Stores Are Holding The New MacBooks Captive

The major design feature of Apple's new MacBook is its low weight. To hold it in one's hand, untethered, is to appreciate the significance of the design. So why shouldn't Apple let customers walk around the store with one and test the keyboard for awhile? Here's my argument.

It's been said that the new MacBook is actually the long anticipated iPad Pro. By that observers mean that the low weight, OS X power for traditional activities and the 12-inch screen rival what one could expect to do with the 12.x-inch iPad Pro. Many think Apple will release that iPad Pro in a few months to breathe new life into the product line. But I digress.

Today, this blurring of the weight penalty for a modern notebook Mac like the MacBook is an astonishing and pleasing thing to discover. Right away, one's brain says, I would love to be mobile, to travel with this Mac.

I weighed my iPad Air with its folio cover (Macally Clear Case). The total weight is 684 grams (1.50 pounds). That seems like a fair comparison because the MacBook also has a lid that closes to protect the display. Meanwhile, the naked MacBook weighs 910 grams (2.0 pounds). When the weights are this close, something clicks in the brain about the portability and desirability of the MacBook.

Apple Stores Say No

However, in the Apple retail stores, these majestic MacBooks are tethered to the tables. About all one can do is lift one up for a bit and then stoop over and fiddle with the keyboard. Its a tiresome process. Indeed, I already wrote about important it is to spend some quality time with this excellent keyboard. "Eight Weeks With the MacBook Keyboard: Total Love."

What the customer really needs to do is walk around the store with one, put it in a backpack or briefcase, sit on the floor in a corner or sit on one of the high stools near the genius bar and type for 20 minutes. Hold it. In fact, fondle it at length. Free from its bindings.

Now I know what you're thinking: the security aspects of letting a customer walk around with an untethered MacBook are a challenge. One of them might just continue walking, right out of the store. However, if the salesperson really wants to close the deal, he or she could accompany the prospective customer during this sales opportunity.

It's also a chance to more fully engage the customer, answer questions and demonstrate features such as AirPlay, AirDrop and AirPrint. The impact of those technologies is huge when the MacBook rests in the lap, not wired to a table.

Sure it's a challenge, but in grand scheme of challenges for Apple, this seems like a small one. For example, one could limit the number of untethered MacBooks to one or two at a time. (And have Find My Mac turned on.)

This new MacBook is beautiful and desirable by virtue of its two pound design point. Just like the Apple Watch, which one has to actually try on to appreciate, the MacBook needs to be "tried on" in a real world scenario.

Otherwise, it becomes a lonely, small, hamstrung device. Chained to a table. Aching to be carried around and typed on for awhile, but unable. It longs for a great escape.

Right into the customer's shopping bag.

News Apple MacBook Update : 6 Things To Know About The USB-C Port In The New MacBook

Apple is challenging laptop users to adapt to fewer ports with the bold design of its new 12-inch MacBook, which has just one USB-C port using the USB 3.1 standard, as well as a regular headphone jack. Apple laid out a similar challenge with its first MacBook Air in early 2008, which had just one USB 2.0 port to connect peripherals and a micro-DVI port to connect monitors.

But the faster USB 3.1 port is significant because it will also be used to recharge the MacBook, as well as to connect to a wider variety of peripherals such as monitors, external storage drives, printers, and cameras. The MacBook is one of just a few devices to carry the new USB port.

USB 3.1 can technically transfer data between the host computers and peripherals at maximum speeds of up to 10Gbps (gigabits per second), which is two times faster than the current USB 3.0. The USB 3.1 port in the new MacBook will initially transfer data at 5Gbps, but expect that number to go up in future iterations, as the technology develops. There’s also excitement around the MacBook’s USB-C cable, which is the same on both ends so users can flip cables and not worry about plug orientation.

Apple incorporated one USB 3.1 port, ostensibly for lack of space. The MacBook is just 13.1 millimeters thick and its base is dominated by batteries. Apple is clearly looking ahead with USB 3.1, which supports DisplayPort, VGA, HDMI and ethernet protocols. Here are some things to know about the USB 3.1 port in the 12-inch MacBook, and where it may be headed in the future.
SB connections could get faster
USB-IF believes the current speed of USB 3.1 is enough, but has also simulated speeds of 20Gbps over copper wire, putting it in the same league as Thunderbolt 2. There’s little doubt that USB-IF wants to ratchet up the data transfer speeds, especially with 4K video on the horizon. But the organization for now has more important priorities, like making USB 3.1 a port that can be used to charge laptops, mobile devices and appliances. The port will start appearing in more mobile devices starting in the first half of this year, and is not in appliances yet.

  3. Components ,
  • USB-C,
  • USB 3.1,
  • MacBook
USB 3.1 is backward compatible

This means all devices running on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 will be able to talk with the MacBook port. There are other cables besides Type-C for the MacBook to connect to older USB and micro-USB ports. The MacBook comes with a USB Type-C charging cable, and the others will need to be bought separately.

You can plug older USB devices in, but you'll need this $19 adapter.

No USB 3.1 peripherals

USB 3.1 chipsets are still being developed and tested, and it could be months before peripherals start appearing. In tests, USB 3.1 connections aren’t reaching the full throughput of 10Gbps, but speeds will get faster as the controllers and chipsets are refined. For one, don’t expect USB 3.1 flash drives to go on sale in the next couple of years. The lack of peripherals is a problem also faced by Thunderbolt, a faster but more expensive connector technology used in other Macs. LaCie just announced a USB 3.0 drive with a USB-C connector to fit the new MacBooks, but it won't have USB 3.1 throughput speeds.

Don’t say good-bye to Thunderbolt yet

A few years ago, Apple turned to Thunderbolt as its main high-speed connector in Macs, but the arrival of the USB 3.1 port doesn’t mean that protocol will disappear. At the recent Mobile World Congress, USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) officials said that it is possible to carry the Thunderbolt protocol on USB 3.1 copper and optical wires, and Intel hasn’t dismissed that idea either. But there would be a speed compromise, as Thunderbolt 2 delivers speeds up to 20Gbps.

You'll need a hub

If the USB 3.1 port is going to be used for charging, users will have to invest in extension cables, hubs or converters to open up the MacBook to external peripherals. Apple is selling a USB Type C to USB converter for $19, an extension cable for $29, and if needed, a USB-C power adapter for $49. Apple is also selling a $79 USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter so the new MacBook can simultaneously connect to a 1080p HDMI display, USB 3.0 device and a USB-C charging cable.

The AV Digital Adapter has a passthrough USB-C port for charging, plus USB type A and HDMI.

USB connections could get faster
USB-IF believes the current speed of USB 3.1 is enough, but has also simulated speeds of 20Gbps over copper wire, putting it in the same league as Thunderbolt 2. There’s little doubt that USB-IF wants to ratchet up the data transfer speeds, especially with 4K video on the horizon. But the organization for now has more important priorities, like making USB 3.1 a port that can be used to charge laptops, mobile devices and appliances. The port will start appearing in more mobile devices starting in the first half of this year, and is not in appliances yet.

Next target, iPhones and iPads?

Does the USB 3.1 port spell trouble for the Lightning connector in iPhones and iPads? Only time will tell, but USB 3.1 has its own benefits in mobile devices. For one, USB 3.1 will support the upcoming MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) 3 specification, which can stream 4K video from mobile devices to TV sets. TV sets will ship with specific HDMI ports that support MHL, and users would need a cable that is USB Type-C on one end and HDMI Type-A on the other end to stream mobile 4K video to TV sets. Besides putting USB 3.1 ports in its mobile devices, Apple will need to support MHL on the devices.

Charging Up Two iPhones, Simultaneously, With The MacBook Air

Summary: During a power outage, the MacBook Air was a great power source.

When Storm Exotic hit, my loved ones members missing energy for about two and a 50 percent periods. Consequently, my spouse and I were remaining linked via our iPhones. Unfortunately, the iPhone can only last such a lengthy time so certainly we had to discover a automobiles to keep our interaction collections start. Get into the MacBook Air.

I'm sure that you've billed a lot of devices via the USB slot on your PC / Mac in previous periods. In this situation, though, I realized since I had two iPhones and both were in need of asking for (less than 10 % left), that I might as well try to cost them both at once.

Previously, on other notebooks, I've been fortunate to still have lifestyle cycle of battery power remaining in laptops computer after a asking for period, in addition to that most periods the cell cellphone doesn't get energized to 100 %. In this situation, though, not only did both iPhones get energized, but I also discussed on the cellphone on one while it was asking for.

In conclusion, three factors amazed me about this experience:
  • The MacBook Air handled to cost both iPhones completely, simultaneously
  • One of the iPhones was being used while asking for, and it still completely charged
  • The MacBook Air still had more than 50 % of its battery power pack left
I've been a lengthy time customer of notebooks and used to encounter from easily reducing battery power pack. It's awesome to see how highly effective modern notebooks are, especially in an urgent.

Old Technologies Are Holding Us Back : Apple Marketing Chief

With the release of the new iMacs and new range of MacBook Pro laptops, Apple company has done away with visual pushes that are a pillar on items from other providers. In an interview with Time, Apple's promotion primary, Phil Schiller has described the reason behind the exemption, and stated that visual pushes are a barrier to Apple's plans.

Commenting on the lack of the visual generate, Schiller said, “These old technology are having us back. They are anchor bolts on where we want to go.” Elaborating on the exemption, he went on to say, “We look for the things that have outlived their useful purpose. Our opponents are reluctant to eliminate them. We try to discover better solutions — our clients have given us a lot of trust. It actually comes from similar thinking as with the portables. In general, it’s a wise decision to eliminate these spinning medias from our computers and other devices. They have natural issues — they’re technical and sometimes break, they use energy and are large. We can make items that are smaller, less heavy and consume less energy.”
Apple revealed a absolutely new iMac with a new style, improved show with reduced expression, third creation Apple quad-core processor chips, Nvidia design, and a new storage space choice known as as Combination Drive. Apple company has pressured that the new iMac is the most impressive desktop computer Apple company has ever created.

“With a amazing style, amazing show and faster performance, we’ve created the globe's leading all-in-one pc better in every way,” said John p Schiller, Apple’s mature v. p. of Globally Marketing at the statement. “The all-new iMac is surprisingly slim, yet features an large number of performance and technology into our most impressive desktop computer.”

Redesigned from the inside out, the new iMac is built of an aluminum and cup fencing with up to 40 % less amount than its forerunner, and an edge that measures 5mm. As per an formal declaration by the company, the new iMac also functions a absolutely re-engineered show that decreases expression by 75 % while maintaining color and comparison. In the new style, the cover cup is laminated to the LCD and an anti-reflective covering is applied using a lcd deposit process. Apple company statements that every iMac show is independently adjusted using a high level spectroradiometer.

The new iMac functions third creation quad-core Apple Primary i5 processor chips that can be improved to Primary i7. According to the formal declaration by Apple company, the NVIDIA GeForce processor chips found here deliver up to 60 % faster performance needed for gaming and design extensive applications. Every new iMac now comes conventional with 8GB of 1600 MHz storage, and a 1TB disk generate. With two Thunderbolt and four USB 3.0 slots, the new iMac offers further expandability and support for high-performance peripheral devices.

Fusion Drive is a new storage space choice that gives clients the performance of show storage space and the capacity of a disk generate. It brings together 128GB of show with a conventional 1TB or 3TB disk generate to make a single storage space amount. Combination Drive adjusts to the way one uses their iMac and instantly goes the data files and applications they use most often to show storage space to enable faster performance and faster access.

New Apple Mac Mini Desktop Computer Is Wasy To Repair, Upgrade, Says iFixit

Summary: Finally, Apple builds a device that isn't soldered to death.

The apple company haters really like to point to iFixit's teardowns of its latest items as a indication of the organization's customer unfriendliness. For example, the site just unsuccessful the new MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Show on its repairability, reviewing it a simple 2 out of 10. Fringe movement concepts are plentiful that The apple company creates it challenging to fix and update its items to make customers buy new designs instead of trying to fix their current ones.

They'll have to keep their tongues about the new Mac Small, however. According to iFixit's teardown of the small computer, The apple company has actually created a system that is amazingly simple to fix and update. Actually, it gives the Mac Small circa 2012 an 8 out of 10 on its repairability range.

How did that happen? Firstly, The apple company allows to start up the Mac Mini: just perspective off the disc-shaped back panel to accessibility its elements. It also enables you to update the body RAM, as it uses PC3-12800 DDR3 RAM; in evaluation, the new MacBook Pro has its RAM soldered to the reasoning panel, significance there's no choice to substitute or update.

iFixit also gives The apple company items for an quickly fixable energy, and it was effective in setting up its own $69.95 Mac Small Double Difficult Generate Kit without issues. The new Mac Small does not have some of the other bugaboos that have created other latest The apple company items challenging to update and fix, like exclusive nails and several areas that are stuck together.

Not everything is ideal, however. One part that is soldered on is the CPU, so you can't really substitute it with a new processer later on. And even if it's not difficult to substitute the energy, you have to dig deep into it from a hill of areas first. Still, I have a sensation the Mac Small will quickly top the ranking for the new iMac, whenever iFixit gets around to ripping that down.

Apple Announces MacBook Pro 13-Inch With Retina Display

Summary: At a special event Apple today announced a new MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display (and four other new pieces of hardware.)

Apple held a "little" media event today at the California theatre in San Jose that turned out to be anything but "little" -- at least as far as hardware is concerned. Apple announced five (count 'em!) new hardware devices, including:
  • Mac mini
  • iPad with Retina Display (fourth generation)
  • iMac
  • MacBook Pro 13 with Retina Display
  • iPad mini
In this post I want to discuss the new MacBook Pro 13 with Retina Display (press release), my second-favorite announcement of the day. While the iPad mini is my favorite announcement of the day (more on that in another blog post) the rMBP13 has legs because it's a viable competitor to the MacBook Air 13-inch that I've been using as my primary machine for a while now.

Apple shaved a full pound off the previous MBP13 and at just 3.57 pounds the Retina model is a little over half a pound heavier than the 13-inch MacBook Air. But you get a lot of extra screen real estate for the extra half pound. The new MBP13s defining feature is obviously its 2560 x 1600 Retina Display that contains more than four million pixels and has 300 percent of the resolution of the 13-inch MacBook Air's comparatively anemic 1440 x 900 panel.

Phil Schiller pointed out that the Retina Display in the new 13-inch MacBook Pro contains more pixels than competitive 15 and 17 notebooks and almost two times more pixels than an HDTV.

Display luminary Dr. Ray Soneira had this to say about the panel in the new rMBP13:
  • The new MacBook Pro has a 13.3 inch display with 227 Pixel per Inch PPI. With 227 PPI a person with 20/20 Vision won't resolve the individual pixels on the display provided the viewing distance is at least 15.1 inches.
  • That is Apple's criterion for a Retina Display (not the actual resolution of the Human Retina, which is about twice as high). Since the typical viewing distance for a display this size is around 16 inches or more the MacBook Pro 13 is in Retina Display territory.
  • Apple is again emphasizing the 75 percent reduction in screen Reflectance. It's nice to see manufacturers paying attention to this finally. I have been measuring Reflectance in all of my mobile Shoot-Out articles since 2005.
  • See my comments on the MacBook Pro 15 Retina Display - essentially the same issues   for the 13 Retina Display.
New features in the 13-inch MBP with Retina Display include:
  • New compact design - 0.75 inches and 3.57 pounds
  • 20 percent thinner and almost a pound lighter than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.
  • 2560 x 1600 Retina Display
  • 227 pixels per inch (PPI)
  • IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle
  • 75 percent less reflection
  • 8 percent higher contrast than the current generation
Base prices are, as follows:

Good :
  • 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
  • 8GB 1600MHz memory
  • 128GB flash storage
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • Built-in battery (7 hours)
  • $1,699.00
Best :
  • 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
  • 8GB 1600MHz memory
  • 256GB flash storage
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • Built-in battery (7 hours)
  • $1,999.00
 CTO options include:
  • 2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7 [Add $200]
  • 256GB Flash Storage [Add $300]
  • 512GB Flash Storage [Add $800]
  • 768GB Flash Storage [Add $1,300]
It's still not confirmed if it works, but if OWC/MacSales' Aura Pro SSD (for the Retina MBP15) will fit in the new 13-incher, it's a more economical option. OWC charges $580 for its 480GB SSD upgrade, which is $200 less than Apple charges for 512GB and you get to keep the old 128GB stick.
I ordered a CTO Core i7 MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina to replace my MBA13 and I'm looking forward to the extra screen real estate. I just hope that the CTOs don't take too long to ship. Apple called the MBP 13 "our most popular Mac" so I'm guessing that you might be taking the plunge too.

Retina MacBook Pro 13-Inch Pictures Leaked

The continuous saga around the stated 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro got a little more interesting this few days with the appearance of some released images.

Speculation have been filled, these past few weeks, that Apple will provide the ultra-high quality display upon small sized MacBook Pro design, following the release of the 15-inch laptop computer a few months ago.

Now supposed images have showed up on the WeiPhones.com boards displaying less sized system and a screen quality of 2566 x 1600, confirmed by a screen shot, which is the same as the 15-inch design.

New body :

The system varies from the 15-inch design, as there are no sound system either part of the laptop key pad and the part slots are arranged in a different way with the important factors.

The new images also show the use of a HDMI slot (unlike the current 13-inch MBP models) and two Thunderbolt slots.

While these images do seem to all-but-confirm the lifestyle of the 13-inch super hi-res design, the question now is whether it'll be presented at the iPad small release on Tuesday?

Reports have recommended a base price of $1,600 (£1,000).

Gallery: Seventeen Supersized Windows 8 And Android Tablets

Summary: As Apple apparently prepares to go small with the iPad Mini, every other tablet maker is going large, bringing out tablets that dwarf the 9.7-inch iPad. Here are 17 interesting, oversized tablets available today or coming soon.

All of these supersized tablets can render web sites, maps and business dashboards gorgeously, without taxing the shoulder strength of the user (well, in most cases). Not only are tablet makers going big, but they are also bringing back the convertible tablet-laptop, but under a new name, 'laptablet'. Here's a good example: the 11.6-inch, Windows 8-based HP Envy x2. The aluminum-encased keyboard doubles the Envy's "all day" battery life and is removable - hence, convertible - and gives it a near MacBook Pro-like appearance (hence, the envy). The Intel Atom Clover Trail processor (dual-core 1.8 GHz), 2 GB RAM, 8 megapixel rear camera, 64 GB SSD are firmly middle of the range, as is the 1366x768 multi-touch capacitive display. No price yet.

How do you offer a tablet with 32% more pixels than the iPad 3's Retina Display? By offering two 1920x1080 screens (total > 4 million+ pixels) like the Asus Taichi does. Talk about flexible-the Taichi is an ultrabook AND a dual-display tablet in one, with a 13.3-inch screen and a second 11.6-inch one). Why two displays? Asus says this could be for two workers, or to better share slideshows or presentations. The $1,299 price is more than double an iPad 3, but this is a Windows 8 tablet running the a high-end Intel Core i7 chip. Expect your company's alpha dog salespeople to clamor for the Taichi.

Manufacturers of these larger-than-iPad tablets hope that technical and weightsaving advances in touchscreens, chips and batteries, along with Windows 8's mobile-oriented overhaul will finally attract customers - especially enterprises overwhelmed by the iOS-led BYOD invasion. Take this XPS Duo 12 laptablet from Dell. Having used my share of Dell laptops, I'm instinctively wary. But this XPS Duo 12 laptablet looks awesome. Gizmodo agrees. The flip hinge lets your 12.5-inch, 1920-x1080 display rotate 180 degrees to switch between modes. There's Corning Gorilla Glass on the screen, and aluminum and carbon fiber on the case. Windows 8 and Intel Core i3/5/7 guts, along with weight that, like the Lenovo X23T, that will be closer to an actual Ultrabook or laptop.  No price yet.

Another Windows 8/Intel Clover Trail convertible with a 11.6-inch, 1366x768 screen, there are a few things that distinguish Vivo Tab from the rest of the pack: a Wacom active digitizer for drawing with a stylus, NFC technology and Asus' recent success with making bigger hybrid tablets (the Transformer line). The price (sans $199 keyboard/battery) may be $799 (a 10-inch Nvidia Tegra 3 counterpart may be $599).

For everyone pining for a larger tablet from Apple, the ModBook Pro is here - a 13.3-inch (1280x800) tablet running Mac OS X.  The mysterious makers of the ModBook seem to convert MacBook Pros by hand - every order takes 6-8 weeks, and you can even buy their conversion kits if you feel like doing it yourself. My colleague Tony Kueh jokes that the ModBook Pro, which uses a stylus, not touch, for input, should've been "codenamed: Newton." The specs are powerful - 2.5-2.9 GHz Core i5/i7 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 480 GB of SSD storage. You can also get Windows 7 preinstalled. The prices are commensurate, starting at $3,499 and going up to $4,819. U.S. customers-only starting in mid-November.

If there is a Guinness Book of World Records entry for Largest Tablet, the Sony VAIO Tap20 would be it. This is basically an all-in-one Windows 8 PC with a 20-inch, 1600x900 capacitive 10-point multitouch screen. But...it actually has a built-in battery with an alleged life of 3.5 hours. At its size (140 sq. inches, 11.4 pounds), you'll probably only lug it around your home or office, setting it up in flat or reclining mode (with the rear kickstand). Specs are full PC-like, with your choice of Intel Core i3 to i7 processors, 8 GB RAM and up to 1 TB hard drive space. Alas, you pay for what you get, with a Japan price of between $1,800 to $2,300.

While we dream of a possible Samsung P10 (2650x1600 resolution) tablet, there are two pretty worthy options available today: the Series 5 and Series 7 tablets. Both are 11.6-inch tablets. The mid-range Series 5 has the Intel Atom Clover Trail processor and 9 hour battery life, while the Series 7 has a Core i5 and 5-6 hour battery life. Both support pen input, ala the Galaxy Note. Unlike other Windows 8 lap-tablets, the $100 keyboards are strictly optional. The Series 5 starts at $649, while the Series 7 starts at $1,119.

You might have already been considering the Toshiba Excite 13 tablet - it was released earlier this summer. It's a 13.3-inch (1600x900) Android 4.0 ICS tablet with an Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset that tips the scales at 2.2 pounds. The $650 price for the 32 GB version looked high compared to the similar-but-smaller $199 Google Nexus. Reviews were thus mixed. But I think the Excite 13 looks very reasonable today to anyone who doesn't need Windows 8 or a keyboard.

The practical little brother of the Tap 20, the VAIO Duo 11 is a 11.6-inch, 1920x1080 Windows 8 tablet with a slide-out keyboard (and stylus) that weighs a very Ultrabook-like 2.6 pounds. The Duo packs a punch - Intel Core i3 5 or 7 chips, up to 256 GB SSD, and HDMI and USB 3.0 ports. And like most VAIOs, it's a handsome piece of kit. However, expect to pay just as handsomely. One report has the DUO's European price starting at 1199 Euros ($1,550) for the entry-level i3 version.

The Toshiba U920T is another larger-than-iPad laptablet running Windows 8. So why does one magazine call it the "best laptablet yet"? Well, there's the 12.5 inch screen, bigger than many of its immediate, business-oriented competitors (though the resolution remains just 1366 x 768, or one-third the iPad 3). More impressive are the Core i3/i5 chips, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD round out the U920T.  Expect a $1,000-something price.

For years, Lenovo was the lonely standardbearer for the convertible tablet/notebook category, its ThinkPad X-series selling well enough for the company to keep making them. How is Lenovo reacting to the sudden rush of competitors? Without panic, if the X230T is any judge. The X230T looks like its predecessors. It is a comparatively chunky (4 pounds, 1.2-inches thick)  but, encased in magnesium alloy, screams durability - a plus for enterprise IT. The 12.5-inch, 1366x768 screen is reportedly outdoor-readable. There are ports aplenty and, for about $1,300, a Intel Core i5 processor. If you trust experience over flash, the X230T may be the way to go.

Not a tablet itself, the MMT Monitor2Go is a multi-touch, 15.6 LED display that you can carry around as a second screen to your tablet. The company calls the 3-lb Monitor2Go perfect for business presentations, and I can see that. Both are connected via HDMI or USB, and have a slot to insert an iPad 2 or 3. The $299 model has 1366x768 resolution. I'd pay $30 more for the 1600x900 version.

Maybe Japanese engineers have gotten tired with miniaturizing gadgets, because here is the 2nd tablet-like device greater than 20-inches coming from the island. The maker is Frontier, and the product is the 21.5-inch, 11 lb. Frontier FT103. The FT103 runs Android 4.0 ICS, and the resolution is 1920x1080. But the rest of the specs are lackluster - 1 GHz dual-core ARM chip, 8 GB flash storage. And unlike the Sony VAIO Tap 20, there doesn't seem to be a battery. Hmm, maybe it is, as the makers call it, just a "SmartDisplay." The Frontier costs just US$440, which is good, since you'll need that money to pay for your flight to Japan to buy it, and all of the chiropractic work afterwards.

Another high-end Windows 8 tab-laptop, the Iconia Tab W700 has a 11.6-inch screen with a 1920x1080 display, Intel Core i5 1.7 GHz chip, 128 GB SSD, 8 hours of battery life, Dolby Home Theater sound and Micro HDMI and USB 3.0 ports. That configuration will cost $999. A Core i3-based version will be $200 less.

Archos is the French answer to low-cost consumer electronics makers like Coby, focusing on media players and tablets. The coming FamilyPad is a 13.3-inch (1280 x 800) Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet with a single-core 1 GHz Cortex-A8 chip, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB of storage and front and rear 2 megapixel cameras. Weak specs in this day and age, but expect a sub-$200 price to entice customers at the Walmart.

Koegler Electronics is a small, Taiwan-based company with the big dream of creating the first wearable tablet. Imagine a 1920x1080 20-inch LCD tablet that rests on a...oh heck, just look at the picture. Not the slickest-looking device, but it does make the user of Koegler potentially hands-free. This could definitely have some enterprise applications. So if you've got $5 million or so to spare, why not Kickstart this venture?

Fujitsu is the Lenovo of Europe - a firm enterprise vendor who never stopped making convertible tablet/laptops. Their Stylistic Q702 is their entry in the high-end Windows 8 category - 11.6-inch (1920x1080) screen and a Core i3/i5 chip in a 1.88 lb. package. Like the Lenovo X230T, the Stylistic comes with a bunch of enterprise management and security features, and its touchscreen supports 10-point multitouch as well as a stylus. Expect enterprise-type prices.
