News HTC Handset Update : HTC One ME Express Review - Another Flagship, But More Affordable

HTC One ME is actually the closest you can get to the original HTC One M9 which was never launched in India.
HTC’s strategy now seems to be to carpet bomb the mid and high-end smartphone segment with as many models as possible. Of course, this means even the company might find it a bit difficult to keep tag on what it is selling. But the Taiwanese company has for sometime believed it is a good strategy to have flagships for different price points. So in the upper end of the shelf the company has the HTC One M9+ and HTC One E9+. Now, the company has launched the HTC One ME somewhere between these two devices.

HTC One ME
Rs 40,500

The HTC One ME is actually the closest you can get to the original HTC One M9 which was never launched in India. The HTC One M9+ was different in many ways, but the ME is seems more like the M9 with a plastic body and a fingerprint reader. It is also a stylish device, especially the all-black unit that I had for review.

Specs: 5.2-inch (1440x2560p, ~565 ppi) display | Mediatek MT6795 Octa-core 2.2 GHz processor | 3GB RAM 32 GB internal storage expandable up to 128GB | 20MP rear camera with dual tone flash + 4MP front camera | 2840 mAh battery | HTC Sense UI 7.0 with Android Lollipop

What is good?
People will want to buy this phone just for the style quotient and I am convinced that is one reason why customers, at least some of them, don’t really mind paying a premium for HTC phones. The One ME has a matte finish rear panel that is good to hold and an extra large lens on it that makes people take note.
The QHD screen makes everything look good, especially the photos shot on this phone. I am not a big fan of watching long videos on the phone, but this 5.2-inch display paired with the dual speaker and Dolby Surround sound make it ideal for those who like this small screen experience. Making phones sound really good is something HTC has really mastered over the years.

The 20MP camera is really good and really fast. It can capture really subtle shots and that is expected, given that HTC has been good with its cameras of late. But I was more impressed by the quality of the selfie shots. However, by default the phone beautifies these front camera shots a bit and you will need to switch that off to look more natural.
The overall performance is really good and there is no lag or stutter. The phone does heat up a bit but not as much as the other flagships these days. The battery life is good enough to last a working day. I managed 12 hours on 4G which is an achievement.

What is not that good?
I like the HTC Sense UI as it is simple and intuitive. But the contacts app needs a bit of this intelligence to trickle in. I could not copy numbers from contact cards for instance. This is something I end up doing multiple times a day; not having a simple copy option was frustrating. Plus, I thought the app had to be much more intuitive when it came to search.

As I said before, the phone does heat up a bit though it does not breath fire like a Snapdragon processor. But when the heating starts, the phone loses battery life fast.

Should you buy?

At Rs 40,500, this phone gives you everything you need from a flagship — style, processing power and great camera. So if you are looking for a top-end phone that ticks all the boxes then this is a good buy. If you don’t want to spend this much, then I still think the HTC One E9+ is the best value for money phone in this range from HTC.

News SmartPhones Update : Microsoft Brings Windows 10 Mobile Preview To Lumia 930 And HTC One

Microsoft has released a new preview of Windows 10 for phones featuring for the first time access to the app store, universal Office apps and support for a new range of smartphones.

When Microsoft finally releases its new operating system that has been designed to work on phones and tablets, it will be called Windows 10 Mobile, but for now, as part of its Windows Insider program, the company is continuing to refer to the previews as Windows 10 for phones.
The latest update to be released by Microsoft is Build 10080 and it brings with it the biggest update to the system we have seen so far over Windows Phone 8.1.

As described by Microsoft Gabe Aul in an extensive blog post, the latest preview of Windows 10 for phones "brings many improvements but also because it adds support for a few important phones that Insiders have been asking us about".

One of the biggest additions is access to a beta version of the Windows Store for phones, which mirrors the Windows Store available in preview builds of the desktop version of Windows 10 – though app selection and the markets where the Store are available on phones are currently limited.

Carrier billing

Microsoft has also yet to roll out one of the most interesting Windows 10 features, which is carrier billing, allowing users to buy apps and in-app content without the need for a credit card, with the cost being added to the user's mobile phone bill – a feature which is extremely important in many of the developing markets Microsoft is targeting.

Aside from the new store, Build 10080 brings Universal Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), for the first time as well as the new Xbox app, new Music and Video apps and an updated Camera app for Windows 10.

Microsoft has expanded the range of compatible phones to include the Lumia 930, the recently released Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL and the first non-Lumia device to get the Windows 10 previews – the HTC One (M8) for Windows.

Initially Microsoft limited the preview to just a handful of Lumia devices but it has gradually increased the number of compatible phones since it began previews in February.
Windows 10 Mobile release date

Microsoft has this week revealed that Windows 10 will be available in seven different versions or Editions, with two focused at smartphones and small tablets – Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise – with the latter aimed at winning a slice of the business market.

Aul also reiterated something which was first mentioned at the company's developer conference last month regarding the release date of Windows 10 on phones:

Because we're treating Windows more like a service, this allows us to release Windows 10 on different devices and customers at different times. For phones, Windows 10 will arrive later this year – both on new devices and also upgrades for existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices. Even though Windows 10 will be arriving for phones later than it does for PCs, the underlying OS code is still the same.

There are however a number of bugs in the preview, with the most significant being one which means that MMS messages may not get through to your phone if you are out of coverage at the time the message is sent.

If you are feeling brave however, and you do want to download the Windows 10 for phones preview, here's how to go about it:

How to install Windows 10 Previews for Phones
  • First, sign up for the Windows Insider Program, if you haven't already
  • Download the Windows Insider app from the Windows Phone Store
  • Once it finishes downloading, open the app on your phone and follow the instructions to install Technical Preview
  • Builds will come to you automatically as they are ready, after being validated by engineers at Microsoft and used on their own phones
  • Use the built-in Windows Feedback app to report problems and suggestions
  • Updates will continue all the way up to the final build that goes out to all customers
  • You can roll your phone back to the previous OS at any time

News HTC Product Update : Launch - HTC Desire 820s Dual Sim Has An 8MP Front Camera

The HTC Desire 820s dual sim aims to raise the bar for mid-range smartphones with a 5.5” wide HD screen as well as a 8 megapixel front and 13 megapixel main cameras. With an MRP of Rs 25,500, the phone will hit stores at Rs 24,890.

The phone is powered by a 1.7 GHz Octa-Core Mediatek processor and comes with dual SIM slots and HTC’s signature BoomSound front facing speakers. The phone will come to India in a new Tuxedo Grey colour that trims around the camera, buttons and flash merge seamlessly into one another.

The HTC Dot View case will be available for the phone from launch and will offer instant access to your phone without opening the cover. The phone will offer a lot for selfie lovers thanks to its  megapixel front facing camera.

The f/2.2 aperture on the 13 megapixel BSI sensor will mean better results in low light. It will also come with continuous shooting.

The MediaTek processor will offer Cat 4 4G connectivity at speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

News HTC Product Update : HTC Vive Hands On: Brilliantly Immersive, Beautifully Executed

The official unveiling of the HTC Vive was among the biggest surprises of this year's MWC, and with good reason. The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer was expected to launch the successor to the HTC One M8 and perhaps a smartwatch, but blindsided us all and instead launched its first virtual reality headset, which also happens to be, in my opinion, the best.

I've tested both Facebook's Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus, with varying results. I found Oculus to be slightly buggy and the headset ill-fitting, while Morpheus was immersive and genuinely quite scary (I tested The Deep, a demo in which a shark savages the diving cage I was trapped in). It still left me with a headache caused by latency - a form of nausea triggered when the brain struggles to process sensory overload. It's a common side effect of VR headsets and goggles, and one both the teams are working to minimise.

I came away from the (admittedly limited) time I'd had with the headsets thinking Morpheus was significantly closer to delivering what the consumer experience of what virtual reality has always promised but never truly delivered - losing yourself in a whole new world. But now it looks like the Vive is on the verge of changing that.

Created in partnership with games company Valve, the Vive claims to "transform the way in which consumers interact with technology and the world around them". The companies developed a full room scale 360 degree solution with tracked controllers, which simply means wearing the headset and holding its wireless controllers is supposed to give the impression of walking around an unlimited virtual world with the opportunity to grip and pick up objects in a way that's never been truly convincing before.

The HTC Vive essentially consists of a boxy headset, fixed in place over your head by a series of straps (like Oculus), and two controllers (like Morpheus, a more updated version of which was also showcased at MWC). When I walked into the small room I was testing the Vive in, it was lying in a tangle of cables on the floor. While the controllers in the final version will be wireless, the developer version I tried out were linked to thick wires. The headset works by communicating with two sensors mounted on the wall directly in front of me at a 90 degree angle, and remains in constant sync even when I crouched, ducked and shuffled around. A helpful man fitted the headset - which was wired into a PC - over my face, showed me how best to hold the controllers and started the first of five short demos.
Once my eyes adjusted to my surroundings, I'd been transported to the deck of an underwater ship (what is it with virtual reality and underwater?), surrounded by curious fish and huge manta rays. I wandered around the confines of the wooden deck, waving my hands at the shoals of fish to send them fleeing. I had a nagging feeling a shark was going to ambush me. Then I stood transfixed as a gigantic blue whale sailed by. It paused close enough for me to see the whites of its enormous eye, before soaring away - its tail coming within inches of clipping the ship's rail.

Put bluntly - it felt real. The whole experience was oddly breathtaking. I lost awareness of the headset, which fitted comfortably, and the plastic of the controllers in my palms and for around 15 minutes really felt as though I was in another world.
I threw pots and pans around a robot kitchen, chopped up carrots and mushrooms and then microwaved a bottle of wine (it melted into a twisted cube). I drew amazing 3D shapes in the air using my right hand as a paintbrush and my left as a pallete, then walked through and around them. I attempted to fix a poorly robot who then promptly fell apart, before eventually turning on me and enveloping me in a cube before crushing me.

It sounds ridiculous, but I was grinning like a lunatic the whole time. I can't urge you strongly enough to try it for yourself, and HTC's vision for the headset extends beyond gaming; incorporating shopping, travelling and even speaking with friends. And it deserves to be enormously successful.

HTC will launch a developer edition of the Vive during the spring, and hopes to bring a consumer edition of the headset to market by the end of 2015. Frankly, it can't come soon enough. And it didn't even give me a headache.

News HTC Handset Review : Hands On With The HTC One M9

Whether you're a fan of HTC or not, it's almost impossible not to feel a little sorry for the company. It's widely acknowledged to have crafted and developed the best Android flagship - and perhaps one of the best smartphones - on the market in its One M8, but despite high praise for the device, it has never quite managed to capture the top spot that many believe it deserved.

Indeed, the One M8 is an utterly beautiful handset, exquisite to look at and to touch. Whether it's running Android or Windows Phone, it has managed to put many of its rivals to shame - not just in its aesthetics, but also in its impressive all-round performance.
But the M8's days are now numbered. Over the weekend, just ahead of the Mobile World Congress - which officially kicked off today - HTC unveiled its new flagship handset, the One M9. Today, I had some hands-on time with the new device - not quite long enough to make a truly thorough assessment, but plenty of time to form some first impressions.

If you weren't a fan of the One M8, you're unlikely to be won over by the M9. Personally, I've always thought that the M8 is one of the most attractive devices on the market, and if you share that view, you'll probably be pretty happy with its successor.
Indeed, the One M9 is a fairly gentle evolution over its predecessor - perhaps a little too tame for some buyers' tastes, at a time when rivals such as Samsung are pushing the boundaries of their flagships in new and exotic ways.

I'm not convinced that this evolution has been entirely successful either. I find the 'dual-tone' bodywork of the silver and gold handset to be rather unpleasant, frankly - like it's trying too hard, but not quite hitting the spot.

Still, the One M9 is surprisingly light for its size and specs, weighing in at 157g - although at 9.6mm thick, it's not the sleekest of flagships, and it will look thoroughly chunky alongside an iPhone 6.
But the M9 manages to squeeze some impressive tech into its body. Arguably the most important is its display - screw up the screen when you're developing your device, and you may as well just bin the whole thing. A company like HTC knows this only too well, so the One M9 gets an impressive and vibrant 5-inch panel with 1080p resolution - not as pixel-packed as the new generation of ultra-high-res displays, but more than adequate, while still ensuring that your battery doesn't splutter to a halt long before you expect... or so one hopes.

Like so many aspects of the handset, we'll have to wait until we can get our hands on a review unit before we can properly assess the full capabilities of the One M9 - and that includes its battery life. The same applies to the performance of the rest of its cutting edge specs.
The M9 promises a truly mighty user experience, with an octa-core (yes, EIGHT cores) Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM. Needless to say, the handset struggled with absolutely nothing while navigating through the HTC Sense user experience (based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop), and while exploring some of its pre-installed apps.

However, there's just no way to deliver a verdict on the One M9's performance at this stage. We'll need to really push this thing to the limits to see just how well it can handle itself. For now, though, let's just say that the One M9 is no slouch.

Likewise, apart from a couple of quick photos taken on HTC's stand at Mobile World Congress, there wasn't much of an opportunity to flex the muscles of the One M9's 20-megapixel camera.
However, it's worth mentioning that a couple of quick photos that I took of the Fira Gran Via conference center came out rather well indeed (albeit remaining trapped on the device), with a surprising amount of detail captured well into the background, along with rich color and decent contrast, despite the haphazard lighting of various companies' stands causing some rather unusual visual conditions.

With the exception of that dual-tone bodywork, which hasn't exactly won me over, the One M9 managed to leave me with an overwhelmingly positive impression. It's a stunning handset, and promises truly fierce performance across the board.
I can certainly understand the feelings of those who criticize HTC for choosing a path of evolution, rather than revolution, for its new flagship. But just as with its predecessor, there's an air of something rather special about the M9, something that hints at the possibility that HTC may have just created the best Android flagship once again.

News HTC Handset Update : HTC One M9 Rumors - Is 1080p Old Technology Or Display Sweet Spot?

Summary:Android manufacturers and fans tend to focus on the specs and denigrate devices that don't have the latest and greatest. HTC's upcoming device may have a 1080p display, for the third year in a row.

In the Android spec wars, a 1080p display is old technology, but I would argue that it hits the sweet spot.

When the HTC One M7 launched with a 4.7-inch 1080p display in 2013, 1080p (1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution) was the highest resolution available. In 2014, LG was the first to launch a phone, the LG G3, with a 1,440 x 2,560 Quad HD display.

Samsung's Note 4, the Note Edge, and the Google Nexus 6 also have this Quad HD display resolution. While all of these high resolution displays look fantastic, the visual difference to most people over 1080p is minor. However, every one of these Quad HD devices has lower battery life than they would if 1080p was used.

Without serious advances in battery technology, I would argue that 1080p is the perfect resolution to provide a visually appealing experience with long battery life on smartphones with 5.5-inch or smaller displays. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch display with a 1080p resolution and I have yet to hear any complaints about it.

Android fans tend to focus on comparing specs side-by-side rather than considering whether or not such specs are even needed and with what additional costs those high end specs come. Personally, I am tired of the spec wars, especially given that there is little difference in performance with high end smartphones today.

While 1080p is my personal sweet spot, I find that even 720p resolution displays are great on phones with 4.7-inch or less displays. The Nokia Lumia 830 that I recently purchased has a 4.7-inch 720p display and it looks fantastic.

Last year, a video surfaced of the HTC One M8 -- so there were no secrets left when HTC made the official announcement. This year, we've see some rumors showing images of an HTC One M9 that looks almost the same as the M8: Two camera modules/sensors on the back; another with one larger rear camera module; some with the same two front-facing speaker grilles; and others with two speakers in small slots like we see on the newest HTC Desire models.

I'm glad that we haven't seen the actual HTC One M9 and prefer to see devices for the first time when official announcements are made.

I don't think there is as much uncertainty with the internal specs as these tend to follow a natural progression and be fairly consistent across the high end smartphone spectrum. It's highly likely the new HTC One M9 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, have 3GB of RAM, launch with Android Lollipop, and include HTC Sense 7.

We don't know if there will be any water resistance, what the exact form factor will look like, if there will be more than one size variation, and what other innovations HTC has up its sleeves. Even when HTC devices, much like the iPhone, continue their iconic design language, there are always innovations in software.

I will be at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this week and will get some hands-on time with HTC's newest flagship. Do you agree that 1080p is the sweet spot or do you think HTC should continue to go head-to-head with Samsung, LG, Sony, and others in the display resolution battle?

News HTC Handset Update : HTC One M9 Plus Spotted In Benchmark – Sports 5.1-Inch Quad HD Screen, 13-Megapixel Front Camera

Dutch-speaking TechTastic has spotted an HTC-made device with model number HTC 0PK71 pass through benchmark database site CompuBench. The unannounced device is believed to be the HTC One M9 Plus, which rumoured to be a version of the HTC One M9 with a Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) screen. The HTC One M9 is said to sport a 1080p screen.
According to the listing, the HTC 0PK71 sports a 5.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, which works out to a pixel density of 576 ppi. This goes against what we’ve been coming across online, claiming the HTC One M9 Plus will sport a 5.2-inch 144p screen.

The listing also reveals that the HTC One M9 Plus will not sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor like previously reported, but a MediaTek MT6797 CPU. The MT6797 is a 64-bit processor with eight Cortex-A53 cores and a PowerVR G6200 Rogue GPU. The MT6797 is a weaker CPU that is no match for the Snapdragon 805.

The HTC One M9 Plus may lack processing power, but it makes up for this in the camera department. According to the listing, the smartphone sports a massive 20-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of recording 4K videos. It’s front-facing camera is massive as well at 13 megapixels. Not only is it optimised for snapping selfies, it can record 4K videos as well.

The rest of the specs include 32 GB  of internal storage and 3 GB of RAM. It runs Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box.

Disappointed the HTC One M9 Plus doesn’t sport the more powerful Snapdragon 810? There is a possibility that the HTC 0PK71 is meant to land in Asian markets to keep costs down. So there’s still a chance a version sporting Qualcomm’s most powerful processor to date will be available in other markets such as the UK.

Despite @evleaks' exceptional track record, we'll still advise you to take this news with a grain of salt considering the conflicting reports we've seen of the flagship device so far. We’ll have to wait and see what the final device looks like and what it can do, but the way things are shaping up, the upcoming One looks like a treat for smartphone enthusiasts.

New Product Review : HTC Desire 820 SmartPhone

HTC's mid-range phablet, Desire 816 got a good response from Indian consumers with its good feature to price ratio (when it launched in June). Now, the Taiwanese company has launched the phone's successor that packs in a more powerful processor, a better front camera and Gorilla Glass 3 screen protection, among other improvements. Other than these, the phone is very similar to Desire 816. Is it a good buy? We try to find out in our review...

Build & design :

HTC Desire 820 looks very similar to the company's mid-range phablet Desire 816, complete with the unibody plastic shell, rounded corners and front dual stereo speakers.

Since the phone sports a big, 5.5-inch display, the overall footprint is also large. That said, it doesn't look unwieldy.

Unlike the Desire 816, the 820 sports dual-tone colours with the second colour making its presence felt in form of accents surrounding the front panel, volume rocker and power keys, micro-USB jack, camera lens and LED flash and the HTC logo.

The phone doesn't sport physical keys at the front and uses onscreen keys for navigation. Unlike the Desire 816, the Power/Screen lock and the volume rocker keys are located at the right edge of the phone and offer good tactile feedback. The left side sports a plastic flap that hides the two nano-sim card slots and a microSD card slot. Other than that, there's no major difference between the two phones in terms of design. Even the dimensions are almost identical.

The display is flanked by dual stereo BoomSound speakers on both sides. The speaker grill fits in a single line, with bigger holes unlike the HTC One's grill that is spread over four lines.

The 8MP front-facing camera lens sits above the display and is prominently visible. The 3.5mm headset jack sits at the top while the micro-USB port is placed at the bottom edge.
The back of the phone features the 13MP rear camera and an LED flash. It sports a glossy finish and gets easily smudged.

Although made of plastic with a glossy finish, the build quality of the Desire 820 is pretty good and exudes a premium feel.

Display :

HTC Desire 820 sports a 5.5-inch Super LCD 2 display with a resolution of 720x1280pixels. Although, the number of pixels packed are less due to the large size of the display, we did not notice any pixilation and images and text appeared sharp and crisp.

The screen is optimum for watching videos and playing games thanks to its large size. Having said that, single hand usage becomes a little difficult due to this attribute.
Viewing angles were also good and colours appeared vivid, though not as vibrant as that on HTC One (M8). Under-sun legibility was also good.

Desire 820's display comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, improving upon the Desire 816, which was more susceptible to scratches.

Software :

HTC Desire 820 comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Sense 6, the latest version of HTC's custom UI, running on top.

Unlike HTC One (M8), Desire 820 does not offer support for gestures like 'double tap to unlock' and 'swipe to unlock' to a home screen/Blinkfeed. The gestures would have made more sense on 820 given its bigger form factor and the awkward placement of the Power/Unlock key.

While the UI looks very different from stock Android, we quite like the Sense 6 interface. It doesn't look very different from that of the previous version of Sense.

It sports the on-screen navigation keys which hide while playing games and using apps that make use of Android's new immersive mode. For more on the user interface, you can check out our HTC One (M8) review.

Camera :

Just like the Desire 816, Desire 820 doesn't feature an UltraPixel camera. Instead, it includes a 13MP BSI sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 28mm lens.

Desire 820 also doesn't come with HTC ImageChip. This means that features like the Zoe mode are not included and the camera takes extra time to process the image after capturing it.
Images shot with the phone in optimum light looked great. Colour reproduction, exposure and contrast were just right and images looked natural. We had some issues capturing macro images as the focus lock was not very responsive. We compared it with the Desire 816 and found that strangely focus-lock was faster and responsive on the 816. This could be a software issue.

Low-light photos (without the use of night mode) looked noisy and lacked detail. The camera also offers Panorama and HDR modes.

The phone is capable of capturing 1080p videos and did not disappoint us in terms of audio and video quality.
Desire 820's front-camera has an 8MP sensor with f2.0 wide angle lens for taking selfies. It also includes a timer switch and touchup feature for enhanced selfies. The phone clicks good-quality selfies and offers a number of options to eliminate blemishes, fix red eye and whiten skin tone. The 8MP front camera is the highlight of the phone and will please all self lovers.

Performance :

HTC Desire 820 is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and 2GB RAM. Even though it is a mid-range device, the 820 never felt underpowered with the hardware being capable of supporting multitasking and gaming without hiccups.

It's worth pointing out that the 64-bit architecture is not supported by Android 4.4. Also, phones still need more memory to fully leverage 64-bit capabilities (better memory management) and 2GB would not really suffice.

In our use, we did not notice any lag while launching and switching between apps, editing photos, browsing the web, clicking pictures, watching high definition videos, or playing graphics-heavy games on Desire 820.

In synthetic benchmarks, the phone scored 24,013 in Antutu, 10,861 in Quadrant, in 2515 Geekbench 3(Multi-core) and 59.9 in Nenamark 2 benchmark tests. Surprisingly, benchmark scores of the phone were lower than that of Micromax Yureka YU, which is also powered by the same processor and sports similar hardware specifications. The scores (barring Quadrant) are significantly better than Desire 816's scores though.

We don't endorse benchmark tests and do not recommend a phone based solely on benchmarks as real world performance is different at times.

We were able to play videos of popular file formats without any issues. Additional file formats can be played through third party video player apps. The phone also comes with FM Radio.

HTC Desire 820's front stereo speakers offer enhanced sound quality in addition to delivering sound that's much more powerful and clear compared to many phones.

Call quality was excellent and the phone works well even in weak signal areas. We also observed that 820 catches even weak Wi-Fi signals. The phone comes with GPS and A-GPS for navigation and maps, and it was easily able to lock a signal.
The phone supports Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX codec support. This allows the phone to deliver CD-like sound over Bluetooth (usually, the sound quality deteriorates over Bluetooth). We found that the phone offers good sound quality even when connected to a Bluetooth stereo headset.

The phone comes with a 2600mAh battery and will last you one day with moderate to high usage including about one to two hours of making calls, playing games, clicking some pictures, listening to music and browsing the web. We noticed that battery backup was inferior compared to the 816 even though both the phones have similar batteries. Perhaps this is due to the 820's new processor.

The phone comes with an Extreme power-saving mode, activating which will make the phone's battery last much longer. The mode restricts background data and offers access to Phone, Messages, Mail, Calendar, and Calculator apps.

Gaming :

We were able to play games like Looney Tunes Dash, Leo's Fortune, Riptide GP2 and Asphalt 8 (with Visual Quality set to High and Engine at 100%) without encountering frame drops or freezes. The phone tends to get a little warm after long gaming sessions.

Verdict
At Rs 24,990, HTC Desire 820 is a not a bad smartphone to buy but the mid-range landscape has changed quite a bit and there are other good options available in the market.
While the Desire 820 offers a good mix of features and hardware specifications, the average battery life and plastic, glossy build are downers. If you want a better big-screen smartphone and are not hassled by the company's 'invite' system, the OnePlus One is a much better option that comes with a superior chipset, full-HD display and better build quality, at a lower price. Of course, it doesn't support dual-sim.

The Lenovo Vibe X2 and Huawei Honor 6 are great options if you can settle for a 5-inch display. The Vibe X2 even offers dual-sim. You can also look at Desire 820q, an inferior version of the Desire 820 which comes with a a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor and has 1GB RAM.

News Product : HTC Desire Eye Leads Race Of Best Camera For Selfies By Adding 13-MP Camera On Both Front & Back

NEW DELHI: Handset manufacturers are increasing the megapixel count on the front facing camera after the popularity of Selfie cameras in smartphones. HTC leads the race by adding a 13-MP camera on both the front and the back.

Design: The HTC Desire Eye is made up of soft plastic. It doesn’t look as premium as the flagship HTC smartphones, yet it has a nice feel. To make it look different, HTC has made it a multi-coloured phone. My review unit had white front and back with a red rim running across all sides. There is a 5.2-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution at the front.

But what dominates the looks of this Smartphone is the camera lens and dual LED flash above the display. There is HTC branding below the display. The three capacitive keys for home, back and multitasking are a part of the display. The rear is neat with the 13-MP camera with dual flash. The nano SIM tray and memory card slot are on the left edge, while the power key, volume buttons and the dedicated camera key are on the right edge.
Water and dust resistant: Not many smartphones today are water and dust resistant. Thankfully, the Desire Eye is. This Smartphone is IP 57 certified, which makes it water and dust resistant. This means, it can be used when wet or you can carry it while rafting or near the beach. It is water resistant up to 1 metre and the maximum time limit for staying under water is 30 minutes.

Camera: Let’s first talk about the selfie camera. The 13-MP front facing camera clearly stands out. It can be used in three different resolutions, large (4208 x 2368), medium (3154 x 1824) and small (2592 x 1472). The camera took some time to lock the focus before capturing the image. There are various settings to play around with for the front-facing camera. One can choose from various modes such as slow motion video, auto, night, HDR, portrait and backlight. The dual LED flash comes handy while capturing images at a pub or when outdoors at night. For using the front and the rear camera at the same time, HTC has added two options – crop-me-in and split capture. Here both the cameras get activated. With spilt capture, hold the phone in the landscape mode and capture a shot from each camera side-by-side. Crop-me-in only inserts a cut of the selfie image with the one captured from the rear camera. The 13-MP rear camera is a good performer.

Performance: HTC Desire Eye comes loaded with HTC Sense UI with Blink feed. It has got a 2.3-Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM. Of the 16 GB internal storage, only 12 GB is user accessible. Overall, the performance of this Smartphone is pleasing. Everything works smoothly, including browsing web and downloading apps. It didn’t slow even once while playing heavy graphic games.

Specifications:
  • Battery: The 2400 mAh battery struggled to last a day. I had to dim the brightness to make it run for a longer duration.
  • Bag it or Junk it: The best selfie camera with a good performance.
  • Rating: 4/5
  • Plus: Dual 13-MP camera
  • Minus: Battery
  • Price: Rs 38,000

The organization's new Primary Promotion Official Ben Ho informed the Walls Road Publication that it was experiencing shortages in photographic camera areas and that it was not possible to rate up development.

Ho also talked about HTC's new technique, which he said will be more vivid. "We have a lot of enhancements but we have not been noisy enough," he said.

The Taiwanese organization lately declared that the HTC One would be late by up to a month. The device will appear next weeks time in the U. s. Empire, Malaysia and Taiwan, but will be late elsewhere. Surprisingly, the organization had said at the A person's statement that it would be the first HTC cellphone to have a multiple international release in 155 nations.

While a month's hang on won't make a significant distinction for HTC loyalists, it could be a strike for the business's desires of gaining more lovers, who will have the attract of the New samsung Galaxy S4 when the HTC One comes out in their marketplaces.

Pressure from New samsung flagships is not new area for HTC, even though the organization would have expected to prevent it this time around. This year, the HTC One X was soon followed by the Galaxy S3, and the New samsung leading finished up as the highest-selling Android operating system cellphone of the season. This season, HTC took careful proper want to get ready a top-of-the-line device with world-beating specifications and even had a clear screen to effectively display the One. However, this hang on has put a hole or dimple in the business's programs, despite the lamps components expertise.

HTC One Will Be Delayed By A Month Outside The UK, Germany And Taiwan

The HTC One, we had observed this before, has been late due to a problem with obtaining the elements for the Ultrapixel photographic camera segments. One confidential HTC professional went so far as to say that creators and providers of elements no more respect HTC as a Tier-1 producer, which is impacting the strength of the Taiwanese organization in the marketplace. However, we have not obtained an formal declaration regarding the hang on in the marketplace launch of the HTC One.

But in an formal declaration, the Taiwanese organization has now declared that the HTC One will be late by up to monthly. The HTC One will appear promptly in the U. s. Empire, Malaysia and Taiwan, but elsewhere the newest HTC leading will be late. The three nations will be getting the HTC One next weeks time.

During the statement of the One, the organization had said that the device would be the first HTC cellphone to have a multiple international launch in 155 nations.

Pressure from New samsung flagships is not new area for HTC, even though the organization would have expected to prevent it now around. This season, HTC had taken careful proper want to get ready a top-of-the-line device with world-beating specifications and even had a obvious screen to effectively display the One. Review : HTC Butterfly X920d

HTC has already started 2013 with a hit by launching India’s first smartphone with a Finish HD display. This design will soon select up rate as Sony designs models gets prepared to launch the Xperia Z, followed by New new samsung and other OEMs, who will announce their flagships at MWC 2013 in a number of a few several weeks. As this indicates now, the HTC Butterfly is the only program in the market with a Finish HD display that gives complete authority over the high-end area. Charging iPhone 5 stages, the Butterfly has some big shoes to finish if it’s serious about attractive The the apple organization company fans. Can the Butterfly offer something more than just an amazing requirements sheet? That is what we’re about to find out.

Design and Build :
The first thing that strikes you when you increase it out of the box is how freakishly mild it is. Being a 5-inch display, you would predict it to be huge, but it’s not. Actually it’s only a tad bigger than the HTC One X. The 5-inch display does not seem obnoxiously huge like the Galaxy Notice did since it’s more time, like the iPhone 5 instead of being extensive. This makes it very comfortable to use if you have medium-sized hands. The quantity artist is also extensive enough to be used without increasing however; you will have to mix up the cell cellphone a bit to reach the power key, which is placed way up top. The Butterfly is absolutely surrounded off so you cannot remove power supply power. All locations to the SIM port, SD cards and USB port are secured with flap. This prevents dust build-up gradually but is also really annoying to use, especially the flap for the microSIM dish.
The Butterfly does not have a unibody design like the One X but it still manages to look amazing. The top part is secured with a Gorilla Cup 2 protection part with the same lacquer complete we saw on the One X. This makes shades pop but does keep the cell cellphone with distressing handy marks. The sides operate a mesh-like cut, which does nothing for the cooling of the item but is generally there for visible value. We like the interest to information given to the power and quantity management control buttons as concentric team designs add to the keep as well as the amazing element. The Butterfly’s coming returning is bright but still manages to protect up handy marks amazingly well. Here, we have the 8MP existing present shooter along with an LED display and a new aware mild. This is originally we’ve seen HTC or anyone for that issue, put a aware mild on the coming returning of the cell cellphone as well. Just like the top side part mild, it fast quick flashes dark red or organic depending on the type of aware. Both are really dim though and can hardly be seen in day mild.

The Butterfly has amazing development but it does not really encounter like a Rs 40,000 cell cellphone. The One X exuded a top quality overall look and feeling and you could tell that by just looking at it. The Butterfly somehow does not have that feeling.

Features :
Interface :

The HTC Butterfly functions on Android managing system os Jelly Bean 4.1.1 along with a Sensation 4+ protect up. This is the same version we first saw on the One X+, so the functions as well as haven't really customized much. We miss the fast way toggles in the aware bar from previous Sensation versions. The UI is absolutely without any any lag and redirecting is butter smooth. We now come to the primary talking about point of the Butterfly and that is the display. The panel type is Incredibly LCD 3 and functions of an amazing 1920 x 1080p amazing, offering it a pixel rely of 441ppi. This is double the amazing you get from any of the other major cell cellular phones in the market.
The p are so mostly packed you cannot really see any pixilation around signs even if you look very properly. This makes everything, especially published written text, amazingly unique and amazing. HTC has had to force up the amazing for their whole skin as well, to be able to keep up with the additional p. While this does look excellent, you cannot really tell much of a difference between a 720p and 1080p display at 5 inches wide extensive, just by looking at it. HTC’s up going up the engine does a amazing job of making actions and programs on such a high-res display and we did not find out any issues here. The display is also amazingly bright and sun mild legibility is very amazing too.
The Butterfly is managed by a more efficient quad-core SoC now around. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC changes Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processer and will most likely be seen in their upcoming One program as well. Moreover to a huge 2GB of RAM, there is never going to be any deficiency of storage area even if you inventory up your cell cellphone with a ton of programs. For storage area space, we have 16GB of on panel area with the ability to succeed it up to 32GB. We felt 16GB is a bit less for such an expensive cell cellphone and we would have liked at least 32GB.

Media :
The music and film player are very just like Sensation 4, with the addition of DivX and MKV play-back. There is no other audio enhancement other than Exceeds Sound, which improves the quantity quite a bit as well as the low wavelengths and peaks so you will want it on for your music and movies. The player is simple and pretty straightforward to use and you even get protected display manages.
SD material does not look terrible despite the top amazing display and Finish HD movies perform absolutely. Clothing is rich and stunning and the display has very amazing viewing viewpoints as well. You can change mild design of it video clip individual of the display lighting design as well as protected the manages or circulation it video clip via DLNA to a TV. FM Stereo system is also existing along with 7 Digital and TuneIn Stereo system.

Connectivity :
The HTC Butterfly is a quad-band GSM program with dual-band 3G support. You also get dual-band Wi-Fi with hot identify capabilities and Wi-Fi Immediate, GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS, DLNA, Wi-fi 4.0, TV out via MHL and NFC, such as all your relationship choices. Looking through image-heavy websites did not existing issues of any type, as panning and visiting was smooth and lag 100 % absolutely free. Community public media and other alternatives are prepared right into Sensation as well, such as Skydrive and Dropbox. All your relationships are immediately synced with various public media websites like Facebook or myspace or fb and Twitter posts, and the Friend Flow app gives you immediate admittance to all the feeds and up-dates in one position. You also get 25GB of 100 % absolutely free Dropbox storage area space for 2 years.
The key pad is still not the best to use and the term prediction could use a important update. For example, it generally was not able to calculate I preferred to type 'we'll' after composing the w and the e, given the viewpoint of the term. It offered me every other choice but we'll.

Misc. Apps :

Besides the frequent wide range of Google programs, you get a lot of HTC centric programs like the Expression (uses the top side part suffering from camera), a Procedure Manager to remove programs and alternatives, Display mild and Is aware that syncs with your Evernote consideration to a Information app that performs between appropriate devices. HTC’s Car set up gives you a landscapes display with huge signs that make it readily available functions on your program while you are producing.
Camera :
The photographic electronic camera receptors seem to have been brought up off the 8X as the Butterfly functions in the same f/2.0 front side part suffering from photographic electronic camera and suffering from to the coming returning photographic electronic camera. Dslr electronic camera interface and functions are very just like what we saw on the One X+, the only difference is that the amazing of pictures is much better. The f/2.0 aperture gives you amazing details of area outcomes for macro images. The signal is also able to select up much more information than before. Gradually activity film is quite fun as well but you cannot get anything above 480p. The amazing hurry technique also makes a come back here. Take a look at some of our example pictures and evaluate for yourself.
Battery Life :
HTC, in their endless information, has determined to fit the Butterfly with a small 2020mAh power supply power. As expected, this offered us just 6 some time to 40 minutes in our film stress evaluate, which is borderline frequent. The One X+ however offered us about 9 duration of film play-back despite having a more power hungry SoC. The high-resolution display seems to be the primary cause here more than Qualcomm’s SoC. We do not even want to think about what effect a Finish HD Incredibly AMOLED display will have.

Verdict and Cost in India :
With an quantity of Rs 45,990, the HTC Butterfly is officially the most expensive Android managing system os program in the market and goes go on with the iPhone 5. All said and done, the Butterfly is another brilliantly-crafted program from HTC and requires publish position in their Android managing system os fast. It looks huge (although we still maintain the One X was a better looker), seems comfortable in your part despite the huge display, has a unique and amazing display, very amazing multi-media functions and amazing digital cameras. The insufficient power supply power lifetime is our only real gripe with this cell cellphone and of course, its excellent price. This should very soon normalise as more 1080p display devices start attaining the market. As of now, we think the HTC Butterfly outperforms the iPhone 5 in almost all departments, preserve for power supply power lifetime and if you are looking for an alternative to The the apple organization company, then there is nothing better than this presently.
