New Technology Update : A Malicious WhatsApp Video Feature Invite Is Spreading Across The Messaging App

WhatsApp recently announced the launch of its video calling feature which has started to roll out for Android, iOS and Windows Phone users. While a number of messaging apps offer this feature, WhatsApp has been a little late, it does however have the biggest user base across the globe.

While the news is welcoming, many users are receiving as well as sharing an unverified link on WhatsApp which is said to be an invite to activate the video calling feature. An invite system was introduced last year on Whatsapp when the voice calling feature was rolled out. It seems that certain scammers are trying to take advantage of this as they have spread a similar looking fake link for the new video calling feature.

WhatsApp has not officially released any links this time to enable any feature, so in case you get any such links, do not visit any of the links. Visiting these links could be harmful and could expose your personal data.

According to a report, the link takes you to what seems to look like an authentic page where it asks you to send the malicious link to other people on your list. It also mentions the existence of group WhatsApp video calling, a feature that is still not officially available on the platform.

If you do happen to get an invite to activate the video calling feature on WhatsApp, do ignore it. To get the feature you just need to update the app to the latest version. In case you don’t see an update, wait for a couple of days as it is rolling out in phases.

News Update On Navigation : Navigation App Waze Gets A Huge Redesign – Now Less Cluttered, But Still Needs Improvement

The Google-owned navigation app Waze has a number of standout features – its ability to alert you to traffic conditions and speed traps, and re-route you around traffic jams, for example – but its user interface was not one of its better qualities. Today, the company is attempting to change that with the rollout of an entirely made-over version of its iOS application that introduces a cleaner, less-cluttered interface designed to simplify accessing Waze’s key features, and speed up the time it takes to report traffic problems.
While traditional mapping applications, like those from Apple and Google, are still the most popular among smartphone users, Waze has a strong following among drivers and commuters thanks to its ability to alert you to traffic conditions. Beyond just telling you that traffic is slow, Waze can tell you why – maybe there’s an accident ahead, or a stalled vehicle. Users also like it for its ability to alert you when cops have been spotted nearby – something that makes Waze something of an alternative to radar detectors.

Plus, its ability to route you around bad traffic in real-time as conditions change is especially helpful, as is its ability to let you add a stop while planning your route.

Today, Waze has over 50 million active users who log into Waze monthly, the company says.

But despite having a collection of useful features, the app’s interface itself has needed work for some time. Instead of a modern, clean aesthetic, Waze previously relied on a couple of menus – one with a cartoon-ish car icon to access the main menu, and the other map pin-shaped icon with an exclamation point in the middle for reporting incidents. And the map itself was messy and cluttered, making it hard to read.
With the new version of the app, Waze offers a de-cluttered map, and it makes the alerting feature more prominent – it’s an orange icon with a rounder pin. Meanwhile, the car icon with access to the menu and other settings has been relocated to the bottom-left. When you’re in a hurry – as drivers are behind the wheel (they’re not supposed to be using the app in-route, but of course they do) – this makes it easier and faster to participate in the Waze community because it’s more obvious which button to press to add a report.

In addition, the updated app now features quick access to a contacts section (as indicated by the mail envelope icon), where you can share directions with your contacts, send your location, and your ETA with a tap.

A bottom menu also slides up when tapped to offer you easy access to things like alternate routes, the “add a stop” feature, as well as a shortcut to sending your ETA to a friend or family member.

Nearly everything you do in Waze now takes fewer taps, which is another one of the bigger improvements over the prior version. And the menus themselves have been redesigned, too, to be quicker to use. For instance, the reporting menu now uses big, brightly-colored, round buttons for things like reporting accidents, road hazards, police, and more.

Waze 4.0 also lets you sync your Calendar to the app so you can receive alerts reminding you when to leave, based on traffic conditions. The company says it has made other improvements, too, like better battery life.
Waze Still Needs Work

Unfortunately, the new app still relies on its bubbly, cartoon-ish icons. This is a personal preference, of course, but I think it’s time to move away from this sort of juvenile look. It’s frankly just sort of silly to see cars with bows on their head, or pacifiers in their mouth, or wearing little crowns in an app aimed at adults old enough to drive a car.

The new design is certainly an improvement, but Waze still hasn’t delivered a truly sleek look-and-feel. Even now, there’s too much to look at on the screen.

Because Waze already shows things other mapping apps don’t have – like the other cars and graphics like ads for business as little road signs  – it needs to be even more careful about what other buttons should appear. Now it features an orange reporting button, a MPH indicator, the time, ETA, and distance, and a big button for finding your current geo-location. This latter item is positioned to the left and sort of up near the middle of the screen, though Apple and Google Maps put this feature closer to the bottom of the screen.

Plus, when you tap on the screen, tons of other buttons appear, including the compass, sound toggle, zooming feature, and when at a particular zoom level, your location finder. Combined with all the car icons and icons of signs, alert icons, and more, Waze still struggles with offering a truly clean-looking map.

Off the top of my head, I can still spot a number of things I’d change. For starters, Waze needs to ditch the MPH button entirely – drivers look at this on their car’s dashboard anyway. The geo-location feature needs to be much smaller and closer to the bottom of the screen. The bottom of the screen doesn’t need a greeting (e.g. “Good Afternoon”) when no route is in progress. And there’s no need to flag how many new messages you have and add a red dot to indicate you have unread mail – this could all be handled with a push notification and red icon badge on your iOS homescreen.

That said, Waze certainly looks better than before, if not great.
The updated app, Waze 4.0, is live on the iTunes Store now with an Android release soon to follow.

News Update On Apple iPhoneEvent : Top Things To Watch For At Apple's iPhone Event

Apple is hosting its annual splash on Wednesday to unveil a new version of its most important product, the iPhone. The company has also used the occasion to update customers, analysts and investors on its performance and other products-and this year will probably be no different.
Here are some of the main things to watch for when the event starts at San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium at 10am PDT September 9 (5am tomorrow in NZ time).

iPhone Upgrades:

Apple last year introduced its most significant iPhone redesign since the device's 2007 debut, with two big-screen models and an revamped version of the iOS mobile software.

This year's changes are far less significant. The body design will be similar to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, along with an upgraded camera and speedier processor.

The device will probably include a feature called Force Touch, which first debuted with the Apple Watch and lets the user pull up features by pressing down harder on the screen

The iPhone may also get a new rose-gold colour option added to the lineup of white, gray and gold.

Analysts have predicted limited growth for the new models because last year's record sales make for a tough comparison.

Apps for Apple TV:

Apple has sought for years to convince media companies to strike deals for the Apple TV to carry live programming outside traditional cable and satellite packages.

Absent those deals, Apple is using the strategy that helped make the iPhone and iPad a success-it's opening up its TV set-top box to outside apps

Developers will for the first time be able to build games, videos and other content for a new version of Apple TV. The device's remote control is also expected get an upgrade, with a touch pad and motion sensors so it can double as a video-game controller, TechCrunch reported. And with Buzzfeed reporting the new product will cost $150-more than rival devices from Amazon.com Inc., Google Inc. and Roku Inc.-quality apps will be needed to help win over customers.

Bigger iPad:

A larger-screen iPad is expected to debut that further blurs the line between a tablet and laptop.
Apple hinted at the bigger model earlier this year when it previewed a new iOS feature that lets users display two applications on an iPad's screen at the same time.
The tablet's sales have been declining and Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has targeted business customers as an area for growth. A new iPad mini is also expected to be unveiled, 9to5Mac reported.

Blocking Online Ads:

Apple's new iOS 9 operating system for the iPhone and iPad will also let people download software that blocks online ads from being shown on websites.

The ad-blocking capability is controversial because it undercuts the advertising-based business models of much of the Internet at a time when more people are browsing the Web through mobile devices.

A recent report by Adobe Systems Inc. and PageFair Ltd., a Dublin-based startup that helps companies respond to ad-blocking, estimates that ad-blocking tools will wipe out $22 billion in online advertising revenue this year.

AdBlock Plus, one of the most popular ad-blocking services, says it will have software available for the iPhone and iPad soon after Apple releases iOS 9.

Investor Reaction:

Apple shares are down about 16 per cent since it last reported earnings in July, because of concerns that iPhone sales are slowing, especially in China.

Even though the stock typically has a muted response at product events, investors will be watching closely for clues about the company's long-term outlook.

The winners and losers among the manufacturers who make the components that go inside Apple's products may also see swings to their share prices.

News Apple MacBook Pro Updae : MacBook Air 2016 Release Date, Specs & Price Update: Laptop Launching Earlier Than Expected? [Rumors]

CUPERTINO, CA - OCTOBER 20: Apple COOTim Cook (R) looks at the new MacBook Air during an Apple special event at the company's headquarters on October 20, 2010 in Cupertino, California. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced the new MacBook Air in eleven and thirteen inch models starting at $999. He also announced the OSX Lion operating system for Mac computers. (Photo : Getty)

Apple is reportedly taking a new marketing route with the MacBook Air 2016 i8s which has recently been rumored to be launched earlier than expected.

According to Geek Snack, the new MacBook Air, which was initially set to hit the market by March 2016 is being prepped for an early release this November.

With the surprisingly release of the Moto X Style, Moto X Play and Moto G, the outlet sees an early 2016 MacBook launch to be very plausible.

Apple and Motorola have been repeatedly pitted against each other as leading companies in the tech manufacturing industry.

Rumors suggest that the production of MacBook Air 2016 i8s has been ramped up to be released just in time for the Holidays this 2015.

Other rumors also imply some negative reviews of this plan, especially after considering that the MacBook Air 2015's recent release was not been graciously accepted by the public because of its repetitive features and lack of change for a relatively expensive device.

Christian Today sees the $100 introductory price tag for the upcoming 2016 MacBook Air as "the lowest-priced Apple laptop in history."

According to the outlet, the Cupertino-based company incorporated the Intel Core-M-based Skylake processor, the latest chipset Intel has to offer.

The new line of MacBook Air would also be made available in two sizes, a 13-inch and a 15-inch model which would both sport a lighter and thinner exterior than its predecessors.

It would also boast a retina display that offers users an enhanced viewing experience through a 178-degree viewing angle with its richer and more vibrant colors.

The upcoming line of laptops from the iPhone-maker is also expected to run on Microsoft's Windows 10 out of the box.

It would have 4GB random access memory as well as a 128GB and 256GB SSD storage while its premium model is seen to be running on 8GB RAM and 512GB storage space.

Geek Snack also predicts that the upcoming MacBooks from Apple would maintain its backlit keyboard but would replace the rigid buttons with ones that are easier to click and are textured to lessen mistypes.

It would also be thinner than all other Apple laptops - or any laptop at that - with about 11.5 mm thickness.

These are mere speculations and rumors. Apple has yet to confirm any detail as of the writing of this article.

News Apple Technology Update : Apple’s iPhone Event May Be Held On September 9 - Expect iPhone 6s Models, Apple TV And iPad Pro

It is known that Apple is likely to launch its next iPhone in September, and now the latest news brings the probable dates too. Citing sources related to the matter, BuzzFeed News confirms that the next Apple event, wherein the company will unveil its next-gen iPhones, is slated for the week of September 7 and the most probably on September 9.

It should be noted that the company had launched its iPhone 6 models last year on the same date. Going by the reports, Apple plans to launch the new devices dubbed iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus phablet this year. These will be the successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively. Besides, the company is also expected to launch the iPhone 6C.

According to a previous report by Digitimes, the iPhone 6C will use a polycarbonate construction — like the colorful iPhone 5C — and will run a less potent processor. However the biggest difference is that it will boast a smaller, 4-inch display rather than the 4.7-inch screen on the current iPhone 6. The production of Apple’s larger iPad Pro was to start last year. However, it was delayed due to excessive demand for the iPhone 6 Plus.
Despite lower specifications, the new handset, expected to be unveiled in September, will reportedly have a fingerprint scanner and will support the Apple Pay digital payments platform.

An earlier report also said that Apple has secured a new patent which will give future iPhones the ability to shoot even better images and deliver high-quality colours.

According to Apple Insider, the company has been a granted a patent for a ‘digital camera with light splitter’ which will allow Apple to embed a three-sensor prism-based camera module within the chassis of a thin wireless device, like the iPhone.

Besides the iPhone 6S models, the company is also expected to launch the long-time rumoured and much talked about 12.9-inch iPad dubbed iPad Pro. The large ‘12.9-inch iPad’ first hit headlines way back in 2013. Earlier this year, reports claimed that Apple will delay the start of production on the larger iPad Pro until around September due to problems involving the display panel supply.

The list of new products to be launched at the September event also includes the new Apple TV. Reports earlier this month hinted at Apple’s talks with ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox ‘rapidly gaining momentum. The company had earlier planned to launch the Apple TV at WWDC. However, the plans were canned as Apple didn’t want to take away the focus from its new OS or Music streaming service.

With the new product, we may see design changes as well as internal improvements. The all-new Apple TV will bring changes to the device such as App Store, voice control with Siri, and an improved remote with a touch pad. The new box is said to be slimmer and will come improved speed.

News Apple MacBook Air 2016 Update : Mouse & Trackpad To Get Biometric Upgrade Too?

It is rumored that Apple MacBook Air 2016's Magic Mouse and track pad will be getting a biometric update.

This will exponentially help the users to easily make their transactions using the feature of Apple Pay, according to a Taiwanese Apple Rumor Website. If rumors proved to be true, Apple will need to install a dedicated chip into the laptop for this exclusive function.
Analysts say that the idea of inclusion of the biometric update for the Magic Mouse and the trackpad implies that Apple is planning to open Apple Pay for web payments as well. Currently, it is only available for NFC transactions and in some iOS apps. Thus, Apple Pay would then provide competition to other players in the digital wallet space such as Amazon Payments and PayPal.

Apple MacBook Air 2016 is expected to be released in October at an introductory price of $899, making it the cheapest laptop from Apple.

It is also expected to sport a much sleeker design and a much greater resolution than any of the previous Apple laptops. It is expected to be available in two variants of the 13 inches and 11 inches. The 13-inch version may sport a screen resolution of 1440 x 900 and the 11-inch variant may be sporting a screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Both the variants are also expected to sport the IPS display and be really thin in size.

MacBook Air 2016 is speculated to be powered with Intel Core M based Sky Lake processors along with a RAM of 4 GB. It may have with 128 GB SSD for the mid- range model and 512 GB SSD for the higher end model.

It is also expected to sport a Retina display and a USB Type-C port. In addition, the laptop may be a fanless device which will come equipped with Mag Safe connectors, full sized USB ports, and one SD card slot, according to MacWorld.

News Operating System App Update : Microsoft Sway Now Available To Everyone; Gets Windows 10 App

Microsoft on Wednesday announced the release of its digital storytelling app, Sway, to the general public. The app was until now under 'Preview' mode. The firm also introduced Sway's Windows 10 app along with a new layout and publishing features. The iOS app has also been updated.

For those unaware, Sway was first introduced in October last year. The app is used to create professional designs including images, videos and text together to make a story. It also comes with a compatibility engine that does not hamper the presentation whether it is viewed on a smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC. Users can even import content from social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. The app can be taken as an alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint. Also, it is the company's newest addition to the Office productivity suite, and is integrated with Office Online.
Users can simply sign in with their Microsoft account on Sway.com to get started, or download the iOS or Windows 10 app. There are not many differences between the Web and app versions. While the Web version would need a constant Internet connection, the Windows 10 version can be used offline as well. However, to import images and videos from Facebook, Twitter etc., it would require an Internet connection. Sway for Windows 10 can be downloaded from Windows Store. The Windows Phone version would be arriving in the 'coming months'.

Microsoft has added a new layout in Sway's navigation pane that "displays groupings of content (images, text, videos, tweets, etc.) one screen at a time." The company adds that, "Whether it's a few words with a knockout background image, a set of images and supporting bullet points, or a cluster of interactive elements, now you can deliver a killer presentation in-person or for viewing across many devices." Also, sharing a Sway presentation to Docs.com is also possible. "Along with adding support for Sway, we've also improved the overall Docs.com experience for publishing, managing and consuming content."

New features of the Microsoft Sway for iOS app include more sharing options, more publishing options, and more language options.
