Xiaomi’s successor to the Mi 4, the rumored Mi5 flagship handset could be announced at an event, which will take place at Beijing on January 15. It will reportedly take place at 2pm local time over at the Beijing National Convention Center in China.

If the online chatter is to be believed, it could also also be the Redmi Note 2 launching on the same day. Xiaomi could bid goodbye to the blocky feel of the Redmi Note. “This gives the Redmi Note 2 a high-end look, which may explain why it’s being referred to by company executives as its next flagship offering,” points out GSMArena.
The Redmi Note 2 is rumoured to come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display, an upgrade from the 720p seen on its predecessor. It is said to feature a curved glass body. On the processor front, rumours point at a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, Adreno 306 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
It will run MIUI 6 and the specs sheet also includes support for quad-band GSM, quad-band WCDMA (3G HSPA+) and LTE FDD on 1800/2100/2600 MHz bands. It will come with either 16GB or 32GB storage space. One can expect a 13MP rear camera with dual LED and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. A 3,600 mAh battery is likely to complete the package.
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 2 in China. The smartphone will go on sale on 9 January and will be priced at around Rs 7,100. The smartphone has a 4.7 inch HD IPS display at 1280 x 720 resolution, 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera along with 2MP front-facing camera and is backed by a 2200mAh battery.
