Microsoft Warns Of First Critical Windows 8, RT Security Flaws

Summary: Plug everything in and prepare the systems: Patch Tuesday is coming. Microsoft will release six security patches, four of them considered 'critical' for Windows 8, and Surface-ready Windows RT operating systems.

It's been less than a month since Ms windows 8 and Ms windows RT-powered Surface Tablets were launched and went on sale, but Ms is already warning that the two next-generation operating-system contain crucial protection weaknesses that are due to be repaired this arriving Wednesday.

Among the various faults, variations from Ms windows XP (Service Pack 3) all the way through to Ms windows 8 are affected, including variations of the Workplace package, and variations of Ms windows Hosting server. Launched only in Sept, Ms windows Hosting server 2012 needs patching to maintain maximum protection.

The newest weaknesses include three crucial protection weaknesses for Ms windows 8, and one crucial protection weeknesses for the Surface-based Ms windows RT os. These faults are considered "critical" and could allow distant value performance on insecure techniques.

Among the faults, a few areas will be delivered for Online Traveler that will fix a defect that allows drive-by attacks on insecure techniques, such as if the individual visits a harmful Web page through the browser. Older variations of Online Traveler, variations IE6, IE7 and IE8, which run on Ms windows XP, will not be repaired.

The newest version of Online Traveler 10, exclusive to Ms windows 8 and Ms windows RT machines, contains no weaknesses that Ms is yet aware of.

For Workplace, where a machine could allow distant value performance if a individual starts a harmful Workplace papers. Rated as "important," it needs individual involvement -- in this case, the value can only run if the individual starts up the papers.

In all, the six areas will fix 19 weaknesses, and will launch through the usual programs in the future -- on so-called "Patch Wednesday."
