Super Wi-Fi Goes Commercial In S'pore

Summary: Three pilot deployments featuring the use of "white spaces" in the 700MHz bandwidth aim to showcase how this untapped resource can help Asian countries enhance nationwide wireless connectivity and boost their IT industries.

SINGAPORE--The Singapore White Spaces Pilot Group (SWSPG), comprising founding members Microsoft Singapore, StarHub, and the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), announced on Wednesday three commercial pilot deployments of TV white spaces (TVWS) smart radio technology in Singapore as well as six new members to the group.

Jessica Tan, gm of Ms Asia-Pacific's business & associate group, said in a briefing here these days that TVWS is the term for the rarely used stations variety in TV transmitted artists, currently 700MHz, which could be used as an substitute way of wifi marketing and sales communications. Among its technical advantages are the capability to journey over more time ranges, go through through more hurdles and challenging geography than greater wavelengths, and demanding less energy and hence less cost, she mentioned.

With that in mind, the three beginning associates have worked with with six new inclusions in SWSPG to set up three aviators using TVWS, sometimes known as "Super Wi-Fi", within Singapore--the first few professional tests to hit the international market, Tan outlined.

The six new associates are Neul, a U.K.-based TVWS solutions provider; Adaptrum; Power Automated, a partnership between Singapore Power and Siemens to provide sensible lines offerings; Singapore Isle Nation Team (SICC); Spectrum Bridge; and company ZDW Techniques, she included.

"This sequence of professional pilot deployments are not just educational workouts. They are professional opportunities that will generate new programs, and enhance development of the application economic system and reasoning solutions not just in Singapore but also the area [through improved wifi connectivity]," the gm mentioned.
