Summary: Barnes & Noble took the wraps off its coming Nook HD and HD+ tablets. They're still Android, not Windows, inside.
Barnes & Royal combined out its response to the Kindle Flame HD on Sept 26. Spoiler alert: Due in delayed Oct, the Place HD and HD+ are, like types, Android-based pills.
To be reasonable, no one from B&N or Ms ever said we should anticipate a new os within.
When Ms and B&N established their combined "NewCo" project returning in delayed Apr 2012, many of us considered about the likelihood of a Windows-based audience and/or product -- a k a, a "Wook," or maybe a "WookIE" (You can thank us for the marketing help later, NewCo.) My ZDNet co-worker Jerr Perlow even went so far as to make a mockup picture of a Windows/WP OS- centered Place product, which I've used in my publish above.
Back to truth. B&N only dedicated to making a Microsoft windows 8 Place app which will be online from the Microsoft windows 8 app shop, and which will be totally able to customers.
However, a B&N processing with the Investments and Return Commission payment returning in May motivated the rumours shoots further with discuss of a possible Ms Reader that could consist of an interface to the NewCo Store. The 55 refers to in the same SEC processing of "Windows Phone" had some of us conjecturing that there could be a B&N/NewCo Microsoft windows Cell phone OS-based audience or mini-tablet in the pizza.
As of this 7 days, it seems there's not going to be a Wook available this holidays, after all. It looks like B&N/NewCo won't be providing or straight developing with Windows Console Stay movie or industry assistance, either. Instead, B&N seems to be developing its own substitute, Place Video assistance, that works on Spaces, pills, TVs and mobile phones. There are apparently no cost Place Video applications for play-back and syncing material arriving, too.
(As far as I can tell, this B&N assistance and applications aren't B&N-branded variations of Windows Console solutions and applications. If they are, no one from Ms is conceding this, at this factor.)
What does seem to still be in the performs is some type of a B&N/Microsoft/NewCo app and/or foundation that has to do with effective studying and which will consist of with Ms Workplace.
It seemed from a B&N executive's thoughts in May that this could be something that would be of prospective attention to details employees, learners, writers and customers. The couple seem to have mentioned programs for some type of device or app that would allow development in Workplace and posting in the Place publication shop. Maybe the Ms Analysis GatherReader or the Venture Austin, tx app that uses some of the axed Ms Mail value numbers in here, somehow?
