Handicapped Man Builds Helicopter From Trash [VIDEO]

In 1958, a Honduran man named Agustín started building a helicopter out of trash and found materials around his poverty-ridden village. Fifty four years later, the man is still working on that helicopter.

Agustín was stricken with polio when he was a child, and has been confined to a wheelchair for most of his life. But this hasn’t stopped him from his dream of taking his custom-built helicopter into the sky one day.

“Look… strictly speaking, for everyone it’s been a cause of mockery because the whole world thinks it is impossible… that I’m just crazy,” Agustín says in the short documentary Everything is Incredible.

Every piece of the helicopter project was salvaged except for some rebar he admits he bought from a hardware store.

“From here to here took 20 years,” he says, pointing to a specific section of his helicopter. When he was given a brand new wheelchair from America, Agustín decided it would be better to take it apart for the newer pieces rather than actually enjoy the comforts of the chair for himself. Even the chain that drives the major moving parts was painstakingly forged by the man’s own hands.

Will the helicopter actually get off the ground? At this point, it probably doesn’t matter, but Agustín certainly seems to be enjoying every bit of his project.
