IDC: Windows Phone Sees Significant Growth In Q2 2012

Microsoft's Microsoft windows Cellphone cellular foundation saw significant growth in Q2 2012, according to new results launched from independent research firm IDC, more than doubling its deliveries from the previous one fourth. The new results show Microsoft is closing the gap between itself and RIM's BlackBerry foundation in an effort to become the third most-popular cellular os.

The results, launched today, reveal 5.4 thousand Microsoft windows Cellphone gadgets were delivered last one fourth, bookkeeping for 3.5 % of all smartphone deliveries. The figure represents a 115.3 % growth over the previous one fourth, when 2.5 thousand Microsoft windows Cellphone gadgets were delivered, which accounted for 2.3 % of all smartphone gadgets delivered during the first one fourth.
Despite the gains, the results show Microsoft windows Cellphone still lags far behind Operating system os mobile phone and iOS. Google and its OEM partners delivered 104.8 thousand Operating system os mobile phone gadgets, bookkeeping for 68.1 % of all smartphone deliveries in Q2, while Apple delivered 26 thousand iPhones, bookkeeping for 16.9 % of all smartphone deliveries during the one fourth.

"The cellular OS market is now unquestionably a two-horse race due to the dominance of Operating system os mobile phone and iOS," said Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst at IDC. "With much of the world's mobile phone user base still operating feature phones, the smartphone OS business battle is far from over. There is still room for some cellular OS competitors to gain share, although such efforts will become increasingly difficult as smartphone penetration increases."
