Hands-on : Sony's Vaio Duo 11 Combines Tablet And Ultrabook Worlds

Summary: The Windows 8-powered Vaio Duo 11 is very much aimed at the road warrior, working either as a large tablet or small ultrabook.

Sony's Vaio Duo 11 has, as the name hints, an 11.6-inch screen.
That puts it on the large side for a tablet, and the small side for an ultrabook. In a professional context, though, both could have their advantages.
At 1.3kg, it is in line with ultrabook portability. The  large touchscreen, which can be written on, could also be handy.

Above the ports - not much to be said there - here you can see the hinge mechanism that turns the Duo 11 tablet into an ultrabook.
Sony calls this a 'surf slider' design. It certainly seems to convert quite easily, with only one hand needed for the job.

The Duo 11 has a backlit keyboard. The pointer you see is quite essential for those without a mouse, as the device has no trackpad.

The Duo 11 comes with a pen - scroll through to the next screen to see how it works.

Writing on the Duo 11 works just fine. Getting Windows 8 to accurately interpret the writing is a slightly less sure affair.
