Techrange : App Wrap November 12, 2012

Summary: We look at the apps for Evernote, Cricket Live Australia, Salesforce Touch, OpenVPN Connect, Lookout, GnuCash, Jabber IM, and Red Rooster Jobs.

Evernote
Platform: iOS
Price: Free
Version 5 of the note-taking application arrived last week.

New features include a revamped home screen and user experience, as the app creators attempt to make all major functions available within two taps.

The iPad version adds "Recent Notes" functionality into the mix.

Cricket Live Australia
Platform: iOS, Android
Price: Free
Cricket season is here, and what all cricket tragics need is a way to keep up with the action.

If you have a hatred for mobile quota, the app offers live streaming, and, for the more frugal user, video wrap-ups of each session.

The app also features batting shot placements, voting on TV viewer questions, live scores, ball-by-ball commentary, full schedules, match reminders, end-of-session alerts, and international player stats.

Salesforce Touch
Platform: iPad
Price: Free
Ever felt the need to update your Salesforce data at home on your iPad? Maybe you haven't, but your boss thinks it's a good idea.

Salesforce Touch brings the ability to create sales data and tasks, update the status of deals and customers, and work with files shared on Chatter.

OpenVPN Connect
Platform: Android
Price: Free
Users of Android Ice Cream Sandwich or greater are able to make use of the OpenVPN Connect client.

This app allows for importing .ovpn profiles, Android keychain integration, hardware keystores, and proper IPv6 support.

Lookout Security & Antivirus
Platform: Android
Price: Free or US$2.99/month for premium
A redesigned Lookout application appeared this week.

The app comes in two varieties: free; or US$2.99 per month for a premium version.

The free version offers anti-virus, backup, and phone-finding functionality. Premium adds URL blocking, remote lock, remote wipe, and automatic backups to Lookout.com.

GnuCash
Platform: Android
Price: Free
If you want to keep track of your money with freedom (open-source freedom, that is), then consider getting GnuCash on your Android.

The companion app to its desktop cousin, it supports the OFX file format, and allows for exporting transactions into the desktop app.

The app comes with support for multiple accounts and transactions, a home-screen widget, and the ability to save transactions to Google Drive, SkyDrive, and Dropbox.

Jabber IM
Platform: Android
Price: Free
When your organisation makes use of Cisco WebEx Messenger or Cisco Unified Presence, you too can use Jabber IM.

Why is that important? Because the app allows users to join a WebEx meeting from an IM conversation, and search the corporate directory.

Red Rooster Jobs
Platform: iOS
Price: Free

Are you feel inspired by American Beauty and want to throw in the corporate life for a job in fast food? Then there's a finger-licking app to help with that: Red Rooster Jobs brings the ability to search and apply for jobs from your iOS devices.

We are ready to declare that one should never assume that an app doesn't exist for something — and this plucky app proves that.
